"I had professional in my profile until I asked here for feedback and several people pointed out the self-same criticism. I wrote it without even thinking about snobbery and because it sounded better than "pen-pusher"" I think it's a pity you bowed to pressure because a few people don't like the word. I don't like your underpants. Get rid !!

"im a prof i have a degree to prove it and continual work training to keep it going i like to see prof in the description because i wouldnt want to meet Frank Gallagher or anyone from the Royal Family this doesnt mean im well off - im not - in fact im quite poor i dont think im better than anyone - in fact i know im not - but im not a socialist either so i acknowledge the class system that remains i dont want to shag any one who cant hold two words together and whos idea of a holiday is having a bath or is remiss of a sense of humour im hoping that key words help me identify possible shag buddies and that is one of them - along with the rest of the profile of course so at risk of being slaughtered and battered by public opinion then IM A PROFESSIONAL AND PROUD OF IT " . Same here! I worked hard to obtain my qualification and to keep it by doing CPD all my life. I do not believe I should shy away from discribing myself as such because that is the truth! I am not elevating myself to put other people down, just decribing myself as I see it. If that makes me a snob then so be it! I am a professional and I am proud!

"What's professional about FAB members saying on their profiles that they are professional?? Do they think they are better than others?? The only professionals i know are Bodie & Doyle " I imagine some do think they are better and some don't, I imagine some will say professional when they are not, we are each different in so many ways, no one person here can express why people choose to state professional or not, can only give their own thoughts on it.

"i,m glad i rattled a few cages , all i ask is you check " professional" in the dictionary , and maybe you will see my point ... ,, but then dont really give a S***,," So all you set out to do was - to quote verbatim - rattle a few cages. That's highly intellectual, and says as much about you as a person as someone else describing themselves as professional. It also allows people to form a limited opinion on you and whether they'd like to meet you or not. I'm assuming that those who regard themselves as intelligent and professional would probably shie away from those who use obscenities to wage an argument, and as we all know, profanity is the the most base form of debate and usually employed by those unable to get their message across succinctly and without swearing.

"I would have thought that a professional person is a person with a career, rather than a job. A person in a position of responsibilty. OR a person qualified to hold such a position. Having worked hard to get myself into this position I'm PROUD to call myself a professional person. Having said that I'm not a snob and I don't mean this post to sound snobbish in anyway. " As for a "position of responsibility", we've often said "Take away the M.D and the cleaner from a company and see which one gets missed first!

"Most of the people calling themselves professionals dont know how to spell it. True professionals don't have to advertise their status they just are. And most could knock us into a cocked hat intellectually. I like to think I have a modicum of intelligence but when I listen to people with real knowledge and an ability to keep you spellbound despite the fact youre clueless as to what they're talking about well Im awestruck. Kudos to them they work hard to achieve it..I have no respect for wannabes though." What's real knowledge ? How do you measure intelligence ? Einstein would probably be in awe of David Beckham. Are they both geniuses ? Surely it's all relative. ( pun intended )

I think people get carried away with the fact that certain jobs have kudos and high salaries where as other jobs that require as much if not more so called 'intelligence' are lower paid. At the end of the day we are all pretty much as intelligent as each other but in different ways.

"What's professional about FAB members saying on their profiles that they are professional?? Do they think they are better than others?? The only professionals i know are Bodie & Doyle " I always take it to mean they have soft hands so no sharp wicks or cuts to scratch your tender bits as a professional in my book doesn't get his mits dirty. That's the only advantage i can see for having it on your profile.

"You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Perhaps it's about whoever you feel most comfortable with. If you are offended by the phrase "professionals" in a profile then that's ok, the same can be said for "down to earth". Professional does not equal posh or snob any more than down to earth means common or stupid. People DO have the right to suggest who would be most compatible with them. If that makes them pretentious so be it. Pretentious? Moi? Ok if someone said to you the woman down the road is down to earth, what would you think? Friendly, easy going gets on with most people?? Now on the otherhand, if somemone said you know the woman down the road she's a professional. What would you think?? Honestly, the first thing that comes to mind! Bearing in mind why we're all here lol The point being we all interpret words differently and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. " .

At the end of the day we are all pretty much as intelligent as each other but in different ways." I'm sorry bet we are not all pretty much as intelligent as each other these days and if there wasn't a difference everyone would be striving to achieve their full potential, which clearly some people in life arent. We are all born with the ability to be intelligent unless seriously mentally impaired, but some just fritter that opportunity. using the words 'real knowledge' was wishy washy of me I mean knowledge in their chosen field - Im knowledgable on a lot of things (but theyre not going to get me a professional qualification) so kudos to those who go and get the qualifications that are recognisable as a professional capacity in the workforce. There has to be an acceptance and recognition that others achieve more in life and are proud of it or whats the point of striving if we're all thought of as intellectually capable and equal. We all want to be thought of as intelligent but if we are all the same do you therefore accept youre dull too? Nobody wants to be grouped in the dull section but its a fact of life there are some dullards around. We are not all equal in our goals and thinking power. Or nobody would do the mundane jobs. It's too wide of a topic ot wander from the main thread though. Let the professionals mention that status if its important to them. It may be meaningless to the majority of us as an attractive quality in a sex ad about themselves, but dont deny their professional working status if theyve really got one. Im impressed by anything other humans do that involves thought and skill and yes David Beckham is a talented bloke too - but Im not sure he knows who Einstein is to reciprocate... see that just goes to show that in jest I, like many others think of Beckham as being thick...

"The list of professions is an official list. It can only legally be used by a few professional bodies. They are the ones like Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants and the like who can sign your photo when you get a new passport! And that is it! Seems there are a lot of well paid and trained people on this site! Makes me laugh when I read "Professional Couple!" wtf is a professional couple? " Well normally someone who has a degree, a license to practice or professional certification. But i don't really think it matters as you wouldn't meet someone on the strength that they say they are or not. Met many so called professionals who bored me to death and been highly entertained by the lass at my corner shop. Much rather read an amusing profile my self
