Oddly as much as I dislike football one of my favourite sportsmen is Beckham

Not because of his ability to play but because he is one of the few that seem to remember his job is a role model to kids and avoids being one of the foul mouthed, fighting, drinking and drug taking yobs that most players are these days,

Never used to like him but the more I see of him the more I have to agree with you

Even with all his faults, I’m really impressed by Craig Bellamy’s philanthropic endeavours and I have a strong regard for Niall Quinn who is another generous supporter of those in society who lack the options of creating opportunity for themselves…

I'm not a Chelsea fan (although I know someone who is cough) I liked his style of play.

I liked Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes too. And I'm not a United Fan.

Michael Owen too, I used to watch his soccer Skills DVD's over and over again when I got in from School and practice for hours and hours till it went fucking black and I couldn't see where I was kicking the ball.

i think any sports person who has suffered set backs or puts themselves in danger or in the case of a boxer does 12 gruling rounds that could kill them is someone you can admire, there has been some good ones so far and i agree daley thompson was a very good all rounder who made it look easy in 10 seperate events and smiled doing it.

From me a sporting hero needs to be something more than just successful at their chosen disipline,,,

Niall Quinn gave an estimated £1million raised at his testimonial to children's charities and set the standard for other successful players to follow his lead whereas before many had just pocketed the money raised during their testimonial matches

The Craig Bellamy Foundation offers children in Sierra Leone the chance to achieve their potential through sport and education which to me is just an awesome act of generosity on his behalf.

Ken Shamrock - abused problem child adopted by a legend and turned into a revolutionary fighter that changed the face of martial arts (and even the damn wrestling) while he was in his prime and for a long time after.

I agree with you there. I was lucky enough to go to the Paralympics last year and watching some of those athletes was truly amazing.

He played for quite a few local clubs, they are finally putting up a statue in west brom with all three of the three degrees to be honoured. He works as a sports agent now if memory serves me right plus he does charity work too. A all round great bloke
