Not surprised the new owners of Cadbury has decided to close a Curly Wurly Factory, I mean if the factory is so badly built it can be very productive can it.

Poor Cadbury workers, they managed there as the factory was for years till Kraft bought them over, now only a year later production is being moved to Poland, after assurances their jobs here would be safe.

Sorry but you are way off here....

Cadbury's themselves have made several attempts over the last few years to close the factory. It was Cadbury's and not Kraft who brought the factory in Poland and started tooling it up for production of the Cadbury's Bristol production two years ago.

Kraft never knew the extent that Cadbury's had gone to until they took control of the company a couple of weeks ago as they had no access to Cadbury's accounts or production plans, this is because it was a hostile takeover.

The move to Poland has gone well past the point of no return with much of the machinery already having being moved to Poland and new production lines already built at the cost of Millions.

Cadbury's Bristol workers have been fighting the move since 2007.

Kraft did say they were going to reverse Cadbury's decision to close, the workers took them at their word.

But as you say it had gone too far to reverse. I think around 30 mill is being spent on the Bournville Birmingham plant but they too are looking at job losses

No more fry's cream either

The news is not all bad, most of the factory at Bristol is listed, even Cadbury's themselves said back in 2008 that the Bristol site could not be turned into housing as was first invisaged because the site is of significant industrial heritage importance.

There is a very good chance that Kraft may well turn the factory into production of something else it makes for the UK food market.

Nah, coz that fucks Easter right up and then the Pope would wanna have his say, which would lead to the Arch. of Cant. wanting his two-penneth worth, which would lead to a more diverse split in Christianity allowing Muslim fundamentalists to seize the day and start an all out Jihad against the Christian Alliances and the civilised West in general, eventually leading to all out war and Armageddon.

Thinks most British Chocolate is crap anyway, it's more vegetable fat than cocoa.

Is this a good debate I see before me, wtih well informed replies, unchallenged opinions and sensible as well as humourous replies, and from a thread started as a bit of humour.

It's not just nice to see, it's not just pleasantly refreshing, it's not just unusual it's actually the opposite of the normal trend.

Erm Easter Eggs have nothing to do with christianity really as they were eaten as a part of pagan celebrations that symbolised rebirth of the earth. Christians jumped on the bandwagon and used them to symbolise christs rising. Damn plagerisers.

Once did some work at Cadbury - they have easter eggs stockpiled for months in huge refrigerators.. so they're not even freshly laid.

Serious note - we need to seriously rethink why so much work is going out to eastern bloc countries - look at poor Peugeot who have had to recall tens of thousands of their cars which were made in Czech republic because of faults and poor workmanship recently. Perhaps Easter eggs will come back to us from Poland ROUND in shape!

Cheaper labour doesnt always equal the best and we will get wise eventually. Probably after a tragedy...

You can have the most hi tech factory going but if the health and safety is lax then your finger of fudge is destined to be one giant chocolate button.... peppered with lots of melted poles...

Thankfully i don't have a sweet tooth and i very rarely eat chocolate. If i add up the little nibbles of chocolate i have ate in a year it would be hard pushed to have totalled up to a full bar of Dairy Milk!. Its not nice that British jobs are being transferred to Poland but thats the way things are nowadays as production is cheaper abroad with also cheaper wages resulting is less turnover and more profit margin.

However if it was crisp that will be another story as i am a crispaholic!

Not only British - made in Yorkshire!!! Chocolate Heaven since 1911!!

Im not keen on chocolate btw Im with the crisp guy those wasabi mustard ones should carry a health warning tho

Seabrooks make wasabi - but you need a cooling dip to eat the whole bag - err yeah you open the bag and eat the lot whether it says family size or not!

If we Brits were a little more like the French sometimes it might help. I would happily boycott any cadbury product formerly made in Bristol. Kraft will get the stick for this but as various people here have pointed out, it was Cadbury that actually fucked them over.

Remember when the Swiss bought Rowntree? Swiss law would have forbidden a British takeover of a Swiss firm.

International movement of capital is all well and good when it is fair and regulated but the UK just says "please fuck us up the arse Mr international corporation" and this government then add "please let me have a job on the board of directors when I leave government"
