Very proud Auntie here

My non academically minded nephew has got 6 C's and 1 D. Been accepted into college to train as a chef which has been his dream since he was 3 years old. Because of his grades he's been accepted onto the higher level college course.

His new ambition....to own his own Michelin starred restaurant

I'm intensley proud of my 15yr old. Though he's currently imfuriating me. He sat his double science gcse a year early in order to concentrate on triple science next year (physics, biology, chemistry) butrefuses to make the effort and get his result. He reckons it'll wait until he goes back to school in a fortnight. Infuriating!!!!!

I remember looking at my brothers GCSE equiviliant paper from about 1992/3 and comparing it to my GCSE paper, and thinking, what the actual fuck. Exams have been made so easy today it's unreal!

I don;t necessarily agree with that...I think kids are being better prepared to take exams and if I am not mistaken some of it goes on coursework which in my day we didn't have. It all hinged on one exam.

I failed one of my O Levels on the day due to personal reasons but got an appeal and got a B due to my mock exam papers. I think it's great that they get to do coursework. Not all kids can cope with exams.

The other side of the coin to the coursework problem is this. My son has one lesson based on coursework and he's ben given his whole year's worth of assignments back (not just him, the whole yeargroup) with corrections and suggestions to improve it and told to rewrite them all before a given date.

Now this just makes a mockery of it, they may as well just copy the answers from a text book.

That's exactly why we are here! This is something we are doing for us. The only thing in our life that has nothing to do with the children. That being said I do prefer to play with couples who have kids. I think they understand the logistics of getting away time better.
