Hate the taste of energy drinks and to be honest think they're over hyped. If you don't like coffee or fags try your local friendly dealer for some speed.

I don't like the taste of these energy drinks.

What I do know though is that cigarettes are by far more unhealthy and damaging than these drinks

If you are pretty much caffeine free,

then yes, you may well still 'have wings'!

I sometimes use them if driving after a long job or needing a boost, but wouldnt

use them regularly. Everything in moderation, except sex, I say!

Do you have scientific papers supporting your claim about possible links to deaths by energy drink? If not a Drinks company representative (backed by the Monsanto Corporation) will be along shortly to discredit you!

All theories such as the above must be supported by scholarly articles and not just anecdotal evidence

I heard that drinking energy drinks will lower your sperm count.

Why do people rely on them so heavily, I see blokes in work drink about 6 or 8 in a day, only time I used energy drinks was when I was cycle racing.

Don't use energy drinks or sugar for energy boosts.

It's a cycle to which your body becomes dependent.

Sugar is a drug which affects receptors in the brain.

Sugar UP down need more sugar..... UP down need more sugar and so on ...

Eat a decent breakfast with protein.

Cereals are sugary shit .. eat oats.

There's no such stuff as a good boost ....

The fact you don't consume caffeine means your tolerance level is possibly less than those who do consume coffee tea ect.

The dosage is high , combined with the sugar hit , its a potent drink . Maybe moderate your intake to half a can .

Yes very true. Interesting lecture in you tube called ' sugar- the bitter truth'. Also in book form. Worth a read . It focuses on the recent increase ( 70s onwards ). Of high fructose corn syrup HFCS. Fascinating, worrying and it answers many questions re the obesity epidemic globally.

I've always loved the oxymoronic nature of 'Diet Energy Drinks' - we take out the energy giving sugar and replace it with non-energy giving sweetener!

With every 'up' there will always be a 'down'. It's just when you choose to let yourself have that down. Those that live on coffee or drinks with caffeine in are always trying to stay on the up.

I only use an energy type drink when doing long distance cycling and even then it is one without caffeine or taurine. I am only after the carbs and electrolytes.

Much prefer being free of caffeine as on the rare occasion I do have it I then get a massive buzz

I wrote an article a few years ago about American conglomerates link to the government and the over production of cheap processed foods high in sugar and fat .... They are richer than drug barons on the backs of the obese.

There is a book called 'Pure, White and Deadly' which I believe is the basis of much of this discussion - I won't call it research as without accompanying scientific documentation and published scholarly articles I'm liable to open myself up to being accused of promoting 'Quackology' again. Because 347 million people can be wrong*.

I had to work 2 nights in a row, mate suggested red bull, he said have 1 can, I thought im a big lad so had 2 cans, couldn't sleep for a week, they kicked in about 6 hours after I drank them, but now I realise they affect my heart, so never again

Unlike some of the other Bollocks spouted on here there is a direct causal link between processed sugar intake obesity and subsequently diabetes.

The worldwide increases in diabetes can be based substantially on changes in diet but redbull isn't the problem.

The problem isn't what people take it's the quantites they take it in.

Energy drinks rely on sugar and caffeine in differing quantities to give you a boost. For some it has a massive impact on their short term (1-24 hours) energy levels. However it's short term and if you've not dealt with the underlying lack of energy problem you'll not have solved anything.

OP, it may be that you have a high sensitivity to caffeine if you are not used to its effects. Also depends on how much caffeine was in the energy drink as they vary quite a lot.

The caffeine metabolism rate varies from person to person - figures quoted on the half-life of caffeine in the system vary from 4 to 6 hours - though interestingly one source mentions that the use of oral contraceptives can double this.

It could be that you're highly sensitive to it. In much the same way as you can give 10 children a handful of orange/yellow smarties and one of them will go 'bug-nuts hyper' from the E110.
