Being from Texas we drink iced tea... I noticed the lady I care for keeps pouring the cups of tea I make her in the plants.. She does have dementia but I can't help thinking its my lack if tea making experience. .. what makes the perfect cup of tea?

I love this, i travel to the States several times a year with work and in 15 years and maybe 50 trips i have yet to get a good cup of tea. Firstly if you are using a tea bag boil the kettle and pour BOILING water (dont let it stand in the kettle) onto the teabag in the cup, spoon in and a quick wizz round then walk away and leave it for a couple of minutes. Then return , remove the teabag and add milk and sugar if required.

Yes you can go on about loose tea and tea pots but we live in a modern word and the teabag makes life so easy...

hope this helps and you get it right

real tea should be made in the pot and you should put the milk in the cup first.

I just make in in the cup who want the hassle and it tasted the same to me

Yes! Exactly! May I add that it should be made by someone else and delivered to me in bed.

I make the perfect cup of tea, put milk in the cup, when the kettle boils then add the teabag and water at the same time. Leave for a minute or so and stir and remove bag.

No No No... You can't put the milk in before the hot water as the fat from the milk clogs the bag and the tea just wont be the same.

It has to be proper Yorkshire Tea, by Taylors of Harrogate. They make it with heather off the moors and destilled sea fret, tha knows.

The milk should always go in last. That way, you can decide how strong or milky you want your cuppa. Simples.

I use Yorkshire Tea bags from Taylors of Harrogate.

Their website recommends immersing the teabag for only 17 seconds.

Teabag and sugar in pint mug

Pour in boiling water

Squeeze air out of bag and stir

Remove spoon so tea still spins in mug and lets flavour flood out. 40 seconds about best to leave.

Re squeeze bag and remove

Add a splash of cow juice

Sit back and enjoy with a dark chocolate digestive

Putting milk in the cup means that the bag won't fuse because of the temperature drop. It needs to be boiling. I buy Yorkshire tea in 1100 catering bags & I never run out of tea bags.

I get wound up when I see those "Coffee nation" drinks machines at service stations. 5 types of coffee, hot chocolate & no bloody tea. Once I saw what looked like a manager at one of these service stations. I asked him about this & he said that "There was no demand for tea" I told him "Of course there's no demand because you've not given the option you numpty! We didn't build the British empire drinking coffee It was TEA!.... & er Gin!"

I have an hypothesis that a perfect cup of tea is one that is brought to the bedside by that gorgeous sexy women youve just fucked in the hope that it the knowledge that it gives you the energy to go again in minutes. Biscuits are optional, cake is a bonus.

"Putting milk in the cup means that the bag won't fuse because of the temperature drop."

Seriously?

Now I know, cos I always wondered why the best cups of tea were made by pouring literally BOILING hot water on the Tea bag.

Sometimes I make a good one sometimes a bad one.

The REALLY good cuppas are typically a fluke. For me at least.

The "scientific" way of doing a brew:

Use a porcelain cup – no cheap/plastic cups

Use freshly-drawn water for the kettle

Once water is boiled, wait five second before pouring into cup or warmed teapot

Brewing time between three to five minutes for optimum balance of flavour and strength

Add five per cent of semi-skimmed milk to the cup before adding tea

Wait for six minutes for the temperature to drop to 60C before drinking

...I used to go through a stage where I'd have two tea bags in a cup because it was never strong enough for me (regardless of brand!). - People get a little concerned though when you start sucking the tea bags themselves.

So... As strong as humanly possible for me! Splash of milk, no sugar.
