Im going to splash out with a present. Im looking for the best TV for my money essentially. From what I see, a lot of TV's are made in Turkey and just re stamped with a price hike for the brand, so does anyone have any advice on a blinding HD TV?

I have been looking at the Samsung 42F5000 but various Panasonic's keep popping up in reviews. Can anyone offer any knowledge in the area ?

40-42" would be great (obviously the cheaper the better). ??

Thankys!

We went for the Panansonic, lots of extra functions and internet connection as well.

Almost all are the same inside, the ones from Aldi are LG with their own badge put on.

Happy once worked for a large electrical retailer for 14 years. I would recommend Panasonic. Very rarely had problems with them. Great sound and picture. The Samsung are good buys but suffer on sound. Also when looking at Smart TVs check they have wireless capabilities.

thanks .. I'm buying it for the folks so its unlikely they will be able to use SMART functions.

I was also thinking to just get a solid LED Tv too, as I'm a little apprehensive about SMART at the mo, it a little too new in tech and will no doubt be updated soon. I'm really just looking for picture quality

which panasonic?

we have a smart tv in the living room LED 3D all singing and dancing but honesty the smart features we dont use much at all. so unless your really gonna use the internet on it i wouldn't bother.

LG have some very reasonably priced 3D LED 42" ones for less than £400 now

mm im trying to avoid smart - one of those things that will either catch on or get updated very quickly, so its just picture/sound quality I'm after atm

This Samsung is close to your budget, but a teeny bit over - the Full HD Samsung EH6030, inc 2 pairs of 3D glasses. It's 46'', so a little bigger than you were looking for - maybe too large for your room, but it's a good benchmark of what you can get for that kind of cash. Argos and others have this on offer atm.

Also consider that John Lewis and a few others will include 5 year guarantees for free. Richer Sounds charge 10% of the purchase price, for the same guarantee length. I do like a little piece of mind, but won't get pressured by sales people in the stores to buy expensive insurance. In any case, if you buy a good brand, new, then you can reasonably expect it to last much longer than the one year that stores often claim is the coverage period.

Try looking at richersounds to see hat they have on offer in your area or on line. They pop up with some good clearance deals if price is an issue.

We looked at lots ended up with a Tesco tv which had great picture bit poor on sound but solved that as already had a surround sound, then added a you view box for recording which also gives iplayer through the broadband.

No 3d but don't want to wear specs to watch tv anyway!

a lot depends on your tv source, we don't watch enough to bother with cable or satalite so freeview with pvr capability suits us.

Samsung are good and seeing that they make most of the LED screens that are supplied to Sony, Panasonic etc etc you do seem to pay a awful lot for a name

Any purchase has to be suitable for its required use and consumer rights will apply to every purchase, a store guarantee is in addition to your legal rights and should be seen as an extra, also your deal is with the store, not the manufacturer, and any faulty goods should be dealt with by the store.

I think any of the big brand names would be fine for what you're looking for picture wise but the sound is a different matter I've had a few different makes of LCD/lLED TVs and all of them have had rubbish sound so personally I would get the cheapest you can get for your money and add a cheap cinema system or soundbar I've found it makes a big difference.

think Ive settled on the samsung f5000, I tried which amd its on there, it also has good reviews. Good idea about a sound bar, but my £250 budget, has gone to £350 and noe £420. Just hope I can badger the sales person for some off.

would always say argos to buy a TV , most come out of the same factory with a different badge but Toshiba /LG are good makes . But there only as good as the info sent to them ie DVD or good TV reception ,got a crap dvd player then it wont matter if its 350 or 3500 it will be a poor picture

I would advise going to Richer Sounds, they have a place in Prestwich on the main road.

They usually give good advice and their warranties are miles cheaper than most (5 years for 10% of the TV price)
