Sad state of affairs but I am off on my travels next month...alone! Has anyone given this a go before and how did it go? Suppose I may meet people for fun!

Yes, I holiday alone.

Sometimes it can be lonely, but mostly you end up making new friends in the most unexpected of places.

Why sad? I've been on holiday three times on my own and luvd it!

Never been one for girly holidays so when I became single plucked up the courage to go on my own. Only told people after I booked as I didn't want the 'Oh I'll come with you' from some of my friends.

Lovely as they are, spending 24 hours a day with them for two weeks, they would have been in danger of ending up under the patio!

Enjoy!

I've done the majority of my travels alone and all over the world. I actually prefer doing it alone. You can do what you want when you want and you don't have anyone there to annoy you 24/7. If you want company It's easy to find, you would be surprised how many people travel alone.

Hang on...how are we defining "holiday".

I'd do a weekend break on my own and have done been to prague a butt load on my own but that's for literally 4 days.

But a full on holiday? Nope.

"Just around a few European cities then ending in Southern Italy for a week! See a bit of where the family originates from!"

Years ago I went interailing with a friend and when she went home, I kept going for a while more and it was so much fun to just do what I wanted for a change and I too ended up in Italy.

Travelled solo many times , absolute freedom and independence ...can do what you want when you want and if you stick to backpacker hostels your bound to meet others in the same boat as you .

I've done two adventure/trekking type holidays on my own, they were both outstanding! Embrace it and just do what you want to do, you'll meet people along the way for sure.

The point is that not all of us have the opportunity or even want to go away with others. I was married young and never really single again till I was in my 40's by which time most of my friends were married with a family.

By going away on my own I can come and go as I please. I don't have to compromise and go somewhere or do something that I don't really want to do. I can make new friends or not as the mood takes me.

It also did wonders for my confidence and self esteem after being in a rocky relationship where I was lied to and cheated on.

I'd just rather go with a few mates.

I would seriously get bored on my own.

That's my point.

I've been travelling alone for years. Love it. Though, as a single woman, prefer not to try and hook up with anyone on my travels abroad. Only one exception was going to Corfu and hooking up with a Greek bar owner - my own Shirley Valentine week.

I would say that greedy is far from insecure or ignorant I guess we all don't hold the same thoughts about going on holiday alone...

I actually think that when you holiday alone you meet people that you probably wouldn't have met if you had been with other. I was in Kos earlier this year and had a great laugh with some people I met there. Off to Greece again soon and hope to meet more lovely people to have a chat and laugh with. If I was with a partner or in a group of people that more than likely wouldn't happen

don't know how you could possibly be ignorant for wanting to holiday with others.

I've been away a couple of times by myself on walking holidays down to Dartmoor. As was mentioned above you can do what you like without having to please anybody else and there is plenty of company about in the local pubs if you so desire. I found it good for me personaly to impove my social skills as I am a bit of an introvert.

Ive backpack ed round the world.bymself but met random people all alingnthe way...but thats what backpacking and staying in hostels is about...absolve amazing and biggest dream of my life but very different to holidaying in a tourist resort which.i personally wouldn't choose to do by myself. If I had noone to gonon hols with and wasn't going travelling I would prob choose a group travel adventure like through STA travel as I did that for my firsts yravel adventure whrn I was 18 and you go around with a group...loads of different places to choose from.

Hope you enjoy your hol...x miss

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

I love holidaying solo.

You talk to people you never normally would, you can do as you please, when you please. Noone complains if you want a pool day, or to go clubbing til silly a.m.

I've done all kinds of solo hols from walking the west highland way with my wee tent, to going abroad.

I would say that travelling a lot on my own with a previous job (ended up all over the world, from sunny scotland, to europe and nigeria - although did have bodyguards in nigeria and wouldn't recommend it ) made me much more confident of my own abilities to survive solo.

Done it a couple of times and doing it again this year. So far I've got 3 meets arranged while I'm out there which I'd not be able to do if I was travelling with family or friends.
