Steve Winwood a supreme prodigious creative talent in his early teens, a superb musician. One source of many hours of enjoyment.

Wonder if he'd have passed an audition for an X Factor or BGT show? Or even bothered.

Make sure you check out Sound City if you can

its a fucking amazing doucmentary about a recording studio (and more specifically a mixing desk) in LA that was the birth place of some iconic albums

It was done by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters - if you are any type of music fan you need to check it out

I saw Clapton a couple of years ago and he was boring as hell, also saw him guest with Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's and the difference in class was astounding...but then I'd pay to see Beck doing Westlife covers

Lmao, I'm not a fan of Beck at all, I just find his style a bit bland, I feel the same about Clapton most of the time too, he's gotten too self indulgent since he cleaned himself up. Can't deny their contributions over the years though.

My favourites from that genre/era were Rory Gallagher, Leslie West and Gary Moore.

Rory and Gary were a different class, never been a huge Leslie West fan though.

I still find Beck the most innovative and experimental of the 60's 'Holy Trinity' of Beck, Clapton and Page...and he uses way better musicians in his bands than any of them. Clapton even made Steve Gadd sound boring !

Madison Square Garden? I loved that show so much I got the album. It also gave me one of my favourite songs of all time, 'Cant find my way home!'

Both men are amazing musicians and songwriters but it's so awesome to see Stevie swap a guitar for a hammond organ like a boss, without even needing a warm up to shake off the fretboard feel

I much prefered Taste over Cream and I'm surprised Rory never made it quite so bit as Clapton, but he was happy where he was I suppose. Mountain were always touted as the American equivalent to Cream and even covered a few Jack Bruce songs.

It all changed in '78 though when the Dutch immigrant and his stripey guitars came along...

I bought a Clapton album a while back. Completely different to his old stuff, wasn't keen on it, I still listen to his old stuff though, definitely one of the best players of his generation. My dad was a big fan

I loved that Moore never fit in anywhere and didn't even care. When he was with Lizzy, he was the odd man out, when he went solo rock artist, his music videos and fashion sense were hilarious, and when he went full-on blues, he looked like someone's dad from the pub. But he was undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time.

Clapton has spent most of his life experimenting with new styles of song writing rather than paying because of his undying love for Robert Johnson, but he's still undoubtedly a 100% acheieved guitarist and singer.

He just shouldnt have let Phil Collins write and produce for him lol
