With the national speed limit being set at 70mph, do we really need cars that go way beyond that limit?.

Is it a good idea to restrict the speed a car can go?.

Don't shoot me, lol, It's just a thought.

iv always wondered that too?? the limit is 70 with say 10% for overtaking? with the exception bein emergency services vehicles!

but if it did happen the government would need to find another way of a stealth tax which is what speeding fines are basically so where would the increase be?? higher road tax? petrol? hmmmm???xx

There's a good point, if emergency vehicles could go beyond that speed, for a start it would cut down the problems joy riders create.

The government would soon find a way to get more cash, lol

i think joyriding would still be problem as your average wee ned is stealing the car just for the thrill so it wouldnt matter if it only went at 70 and if they need a getaway vehicle for whatever or just a cheap thrill they will still steal plus ringers etc x

But still, with police being able to go much faster, then they would be on the scene quicker, it wont stop joy riding, but possibly cut down some of the tragedies caused by it.

The company I work for implemented a restricted vehicle policy and I was given a small van that could not go faster than 68mph. The problem with that is that trying to overtake a HGV that is also restricted to 68 is impossible as neither vehicle can go faster than the other if they are both travelling at the maximum speed possible. The other problem was that other cars/small vans expected me to be able to go faster and got quite irate when I didn't.

When you are regularly driving 300-400 miles in a single trip you need to have a burst of speed every now and then to break up the monotony of it, as trundling along at a fixed speed of 68mph is soul-destroying.

I took the vehicle back after a week and told them I'd supply my own if they inisisted I drive a restricted vehicle. I now have a nice Astra that goes like a bullet lol.

I'm not saying to restrict it below the speed limit, but not to allow cars to hit 150mph, I'm not suggesting a limit of any speed, but it does seem daft that cars can hit speeds ridiculously higher than the national speed limit.

thats true! about here they would just nick the police car lol!!

in the recent bad weather one thing i did notice is that its not so much speed at times its the standard of driving that is a problem! the amount of people who cant drive in bad conditions is unreal and a very big hazard! xx

thats true! about here they would just nick the police car lol!!

There's another question, with the roads being so busy now, should drivers have to take a fresh test every so often, say every year, or two or three, maybe even five?.

i think and this is just my opinion that there should be a test for summer driving and the hazards but also a winter test for when conditions are poorer! the amount of people who cant drive in snow is unreal! i got stuck in a jam for 5 hrs because of people who cant drive in snow a few times i had to get out my car and drive theirs over really bad bits then walk back to my own and before anyone says it wasnt just women or younger drivers!! xx
