No no not flashing your bits.

A new scam where soneone flashes you to pull out or to let you turn while out driving, then as you pull out or start to turn they drive into you, now we have all at some point flashed another driver so they can pull out or turn during heavy traffic, will this new scam make you think twice

Brighton - even Hove!

Cars flashing their headlights at other cars is meaningless, drivers need to make their own decisions on whether to pull out or not.

Meaningless, so you are telling me you have never pulled out when some let's you or you have never allowed someone else do it

Ok so yes it's their decision, but sometimes some need that little bit if help, when they are stuck trying to get out of a junction during heavy traffic or is that too much to ask

In this country we have adopted some weird rules of our own on the roads. The flashing of headlights is meant to be used to warn others you are there (according to the highway code). It is the same as using your horn which is also only meant to be used to warn people you are there however it is generally only used in rage by most motorists.

Go take a drive over in SE Asia and everyone is flashing and honking away in the hope that this lets everyone know they're there. Guess what too, no one gets out their car armed with a crow bar chasing cars that have tooted their horns at them! Novelty but that is the way these two functions on a car should be used.

Whilst I have chosen to make a maneuver when someone has flashed me I only make it if and when I think it is safe to do so. I've gone into the side of a car whilst riding a motorbike that was 'flashed' out by somebody. The drive too it that the flash meant it was safe to go and didn't even check the direction I was travelling from

Remember what the highway code says "flashing of headlights is given as a warning that the other road user is there" too many people use it as a gesture to allow some one the right of way which they are not entitled to

It's not. When I said meaningless I meant flashing headlights can be interpreted differently like 'you go first' or 'I'm letting you pull out' or 'move out of the way' or 'you forgot to put your headlights on' or 'unexpected trouble ahead' or indeed, a flash by accidentally knocking the light lever. So it's best to ignore people flashing lights and make your own driving decision.

Really?

There are about 10 prime lications for that where I live.

The closest is 300 yards away and I use it everyday.

That's pretty freaky if I'm honest.

Move to a place where there are no side roads

I agree - you can never be sure why somebody's flashing their lights so why take the risk?

That's really sad. I flash people to let them out in front of me all the time. Especially taxi drivers because they are really nice round here.

One of my favourite things about motorways is when lorries flash each other in and out of lanes. I know I'm a saddo but I like that beccause it's a nice thing to do. It restores my faith in humanity.

The flashing of headlights is supposed to be for the same reason as the horn, ie to make others aware of your presence. I must admit to being cautious about pulling out when flashed. But then I can remember a young lady gp in who pulled out at a T junction when a lorry was flashing its lights on the major road, the GP pulled out, the lorry was going down hill on a very steep road and its brakes had failed. The young lady doctor was killed.

The lorry driver was trying to warn others of his presence
