My box

Hi Guys

So here it is, You know if something not cool has happened in your life, you may feel the need to put it in a box , bury it, and leave it buried forever.

I have one of those boxes, full of hideous memories from my 2nd tour of duty in Iraq.

The bloody box is now on my dining room table, I have to go through it for legal reasons, full of medical notes and a time I would rather forget, how am i going to approach this, how would you go about opening your box that you thought was buried forever?

Hugs everyone

Take your time. Remember you got through it, and its the past. Try and think what you've got ahead.

I feel for you.

Sadly if it has to be done it has to be done.

As fast and quick as I could making sure I got everything so I would not need to go back.

Once done nice glass of what you like and a relaxing hot bath.

Sorry you have to go their, hope it does not tax you to much.

Hug back.

best way to deal with it in my opinion is to confront it take the pain and deal with it exercise all demons surrounding it the box will never contain it only make it scarier each time it returns good luck

Can you just get to the bits you need and not look at the other stuff in it?

Empty everything out of the box without looking at them. Then put everything back (except what you need). That way you aren't actually taking stuff out but putting it in to the box.

Prepare yourself metally as you know what's in there and try to associate something positive to the memories, your ability to survive, your strength, your progress....

All the best x

celebrate the past, you have come through it, don't let the fear of the past stop you moving on, we are shaped and made by past events, be proud, be happy and GO FOR IT !!!

I know it is hard but maybe seek advice from t.a centre or have a friend there with you to suport you if you have to face it or put the box away till you feel the time is ok for you to face it im sure there is many people that knows what your going through and will be there for you but please do not rush what ur not ready to deal with x

Well I wish you luck, just concentrate on what you need to find, try not to dwell and look forward to completing the task and give yourself a treat for doing so afterwards.

Take the bull by the horns and hit it head on.

I was wounded in 2006, could have lost a leg and several other bits of myself too. I have a nice piece of mortar casing they dug out of me as a good luck charm.

Contact Selly Oak and see if they can arrange counselling for you..

A huge Thanks to all the messages I have recieved, a huge respect to my fellow fabsters that have served and dealing with their own box, and to all the lovely sexy peeps that have contributed to this thread, we will all get there in the end guys.

A moment for our comrades that did not come home.

We will remember them.

Kent

Only just seen this.

I agree with a PP that says empty the box and then piece by piece as you sort thru put it back in. Then hopefully you can lock it away and never have to look again.

I had a lot of friends that have been out in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq and afghan and although they've never spoken to me about it in great detail I know that it will stay with them forever.

Hope it's not too traumatic for you. Xxx
