yumsville

mind telling me what you feed your pooches?

Im looking to change and needing ideas. I realise that this isnt swing related but the price and ingredients of food is making indecision.

I dont go for supermarket dog foods, but everything I am seeing is £46+

Our dog has Omega Chicken or Omega Beef from Petsmart. It's about £18 for a 15kg bag. It looks like little biscuit hoops.

He gets plenty of clean water too.

He's fit as fook on it too, hasn't got an ounce of fat on him, although I do walk his legs off when I'm home.

If he's lucky he gets any scraps we might leave.

I give our beagle Bakers Complete ...

I don't subscribe to the idea of paying a fortune for dried foods ....

A bit if a mix of everything and exercise is a balanced diet

Google Oscars petfoods. They do all sorts of natural foods. Our pointer has one that helps with her arthritis. Oh and they deliver to your house and we get a phone call every so often to see if we need restocking or not.

To get the right amount each time weigh the amount into a plastic bottle and cut off to the top of food. Easy trick but saves a dog getting over weight

Mine had an issue with his teeth and gum and needs to be on food formulated for oral care.

Rather than to feed him Hill's Prescription Diet t/d, I feed him on the cheaper Science Plan Oral Care instead, and it seems to work equally as well as t/d.

I feed mine on bakers mixed with fresh fish in the morning and tripe in the evening

ive tried loads if dry food and bakers is the only one my Labrador will eat, pedigree gives him the shits

I've fed Orijen, fish4dogs, burns, JWB but because of their prices i've gone for Vatalin sensitive lamb - its a great food for the price/ingredients just hes walking away from it a little.

I have 2 Alsatians.

And they get through 4 12kg sacks of wagg (Beef version) a month.

In the winter 5 sacks. My two eat more in the winter than the summer.

I only feed them dried food.

In the morning they have a bowl of just dried munch and in the evening I put a tin of tuna in with it and gravy.

Our dog is a cross breed council estate special, he weighs in at 32kgs and he gets fed the amount his vet recommended.

He's 8yrs old and bounds around like a pup. Never had day sick since I've had him. He has his booster and kennel cough jabs annually and the vet always comments on his condition.

Thing about dogs is that they'll eat most things, good or bad. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say.

German shep, huge labradoodle, rottie and lab,

they are on a BARF diet, bones and raw food diet,

fresh chickens, beef bones, offal hearts and liver, all from local abbotoir, plus essential vitamins.

It isn't natural for dogs to eat cerelas, rice etc, always use raw chickens and bones, NEVER COOKED BONES.

Buy some motorcycle panniers and let the dog carry his own dinner. There's an old lady who used to live in St Austell who had a boxer dog. She put panniers on him and he carried her shopping for her.

Buy some motorcycle panniers and let the dog carry his own dinner. There's an old lady who used to live in St Austell who had a boxer dog. She put panniers on him and he carried her shopping for her. "

My rottie used to carry her 15 kilos of Wagg home every two weeks....., now that I only have the Aussie retriever, I carry the 15 kilo bag once a month.... he still gets fed on Wagg..,,,never had a bad day

Wagg & BARF its hard work but my dogs are extra kids to me, both in great condition & act like puppies half the time even though my staff x is getting on now..... No idea of age as he is a rescue farm dog but vet puts him at over 10

It is expensive but worth it and I used to breed dogs and other animals. For health and vitality it is worth paying the premium.

Monty has a mix of Beta kibble and Butchers Choice soft food....not too expensive as he's only a mini dachshund & has a handful & a half of kibble and a quarter of a tray of soft food. He's got a lovely coat & teeth on it

Have had 3 generations of Border Collies all raised from pups. They were fed on a variety of canned food & mixers over the years but they all loved it when I made a curry. No matter how hot it was, they would only ever spit out the mushrooms

my pooch has a fry up every morning, and maybe a burger or to in the evening, and a roast on sunday.

he is fighting fit, a good weight at about 20kgs, he does eat alot for a chiwawa tho

My Akita/Malamute gets James Wellbeloved. Decent food, little additives and not much filler. Good for large breeds with sensitive stomachs.

Ive never been a fan of Canin, too many maizes/wheats.. If I were buying premium It'd be Orijen or Acana, Fish4dogs, but £50 a bag is too much atm. Burns is too ricey for the price, Vitalin lamb sensitive is great but hes turning away from it as I say, so I'm gonna see what Oscars is like.. great help all

had our collies on james wellbeloved but the protein at 25% made them both a bit hyper..

tried them on pets at home which is 19% protein and about a 5th of the previous price..

still not sure whether to put them on a mixture of both tbh..

both are ideal weight and bags of energy..

Feed mine say meat from local butchers he minces offal and meat up works out about 3lb of meat for 1pound dogs love it

onions (uncooked mostly)

apple seeds (arsenic)

raw garlic (especially the green cores)

grapes

chocolate (moreso dark)

stawberries

tomato seeds

AND. Not forgetting the VERY QUICK killer

RAISINS and CURRENTS/DATES!

James beloved another good brand. The higher end foods you notice in coat etc and all round, after breeding many animals for numerous years I can tell you stuff like Waggs is utter crap and what goes in to it utter shit.

mm my senions on JWB but ive moved away from it since it was sold, but hes 15 and happy eating it. Have to agree about the cheaper ones.. the protein doesnt make them hyper as they absob protein in adifferent way. Its the protein that is derrived not from animals that sends them cuckoo

They will not kill a dog but can cause a reaction in their digestive tract which can lead to bloat.

It is normal for a dog to be sick if it has eaten certain substances but as they can, will not lead to bloat or blockages.

Poisonous means death and that is so rare and secondary issues which can cause that.

They tend to leave the things which are not good for them.

I once gave my first Border Collie some spare rib bones which he scoffed as if they were going out of fashion.........2 hrs later I had a big pile of puke to clean up

You never see any Pork flavoured dog meat

I cook for my dogs and freeze them in take out tubs. I cook chicken, beef, lamb in rotation. Bulk it up with lentils, barley, left over veg like a casserole. Then add pasta to fill them up. Works out cheaper than tinned food, and the smell is much nicer than opening a tin of dog food. Just takes a little effort twice a month.

Maybe you have been lucky, but why risk their health by offering them cooked brittle bones and foods that are not good for them?

Tried several but have settled on Wagg following advice from my cousin who is a vet. 2 labs coming up to 6 months old now, loads of energy, fit as fiddles and growing bigger by the day. Luckily they live with my kids and the ex lol

But have started giving them large beef bones from the butchers too - they absolutely love them!!

it is best - they are a flavour humans can appreciate but sre harmful to pets. I was giving my older handfuls of grapes until someone told me. I googled it as did you and felt gult as fook later. He's not had one sice, even though he had no reaction. Taking the risk just isnt worth it x

bakers complete from amazon was £22 for 15kg but now costs a few pound more

whatever you do don't change its food overnight or it will have a bad stomach and might leave you presents all round the house !!

Agreed. Mine was totally hyper due to all the carbs in cereal laden food. This diet has made such a difference

Wagg is not very good quality it has very little meat in it.

Bakers is the equivalent of feeding your dog junk food. (vets advice)

Read the ingredients before buying...

I feed mine wainwrights and butchers tripe mix and a lidl cod liver oil a day.

Because he has half and half a 15kg sack of dry food lasts a couple of months and the butchers is about 50p a can.

I have heard that it is better to not mix dry and wet food as it digests at a different rate.

The barf diet it mentioned above is the most natural diet to feed but can be expensive.

Mine is a 21kg Staffie, who's sat on me because they're holding the national firework competition about a mile away...
