Gosport

Gave up camping years ago after breaking my kneecap, which made sleeping on a camping mat too painful.

I am now back to wild camping thanks to stumbling across a hammock camping forum. Not sure who well it would go down, or is that up, on commercial sites in the UK.

campgrounds that don't allow fires? I just can't fathom that idea. It ain't camping if you don't have a fire. I understand the safety reasons sure...but really are campgrounds in the UK that strict?

that's not real camping imo. You need to come camp in the US! have a raging bonfire, cook over it and maybe even catch your own dinner! All of this and clothing optional (at select sites) too. I tell ya though...naked in the woods ain't much fun...too many mosquitoes.

We bought a folding bbq, and when we have finished cooking on it chuck some of those smokeless logs on it. You seem to be able to get away with that as it is off the ground

What you want is what we have - a motor home. Air-con, heating, full shower room, tv, dvd - the works, and we love it! It's also great fun pulling into a mixed-unit campsite in the rain, getting straight in the back for a cuppa and watching the campers struggle with their soaking wet gear

I need my home comfort when I go camping, and don't rough it.

I use a 2-burner liquid fuel stove, and can knock up some fancy meals on it.

And I have a BBQ too.

However, I am not a big fan of camp fires.

(Shameless plug alert!)

We just had a really successful (100 plus people!) Masked Ball down here in Wales, and are planning on holding a similar event every year, with a different theme.

Why am I telling you lot?

Simples.... its a bunkhouse / camping weekend, and we would welcome anyone who would like to attend.

For details, have a gander in the Welsh forums, people started asking about next years event the day after the Ball, so we booked the venue for the whole weekend next time, rather than one night. Its going great guns, and it looks like we will double the number of people!
