Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It's much cheaper up here!

I'm in a very sumptuous hotel at the same price as a Travelodge (ugh). We went shopping around Manchester and got loads but didn't spend a lot. It's also quite nice in Manchester.

The petrol is more expensive and it's not London but if I had to move up north I think it might be possible.

It also takes about a fifth of the time to go anywhere! M60 is useable, we have Harvey nicks, good restaurants and people aren't angry all the Time! Personally I'd never move back to London and if I want to visit it's 2hrs on the train!

I did find the lack of signage a bit frustrating but now in the middle of the city it's fine. There's a frozen yoghurt place to try too. If they have organic yoghurt in salted caramel then all is good. I just need John Lewis and Waitrose and my family across the road and I'd be ready to move.

We do have Johnny Lou Lou and Waitrose in the North you know. And fuel prices are generally cheaper as long as you avoid motorway services and city centre petrol stations.

Add in the fact that all Northerners are 'aaaaard and we can sort the family issue with a few balaclavas and a tank of fuel.

I doubt they would want to move. However, if the current economic situation continues for much longer then I might consider moving up - without them.

Hull

Having lived all over the UK, I find that the further North you go, it becomes better in every aspect.

Down in London and the South East, it's a different world! Everyone is rushing around, they are afraid you are invading their space if you even try to talk to them on the bus or the train, and manners have gone out of the window!

I'm a Scot, working in Berkshire, but have my base in Hull, where I still have my house. In official financial and Government surveys over the past 4-5 years, Hull is regarded as having the cheapest standard of living in the UK, with Manchester a close second.

Chinese - we haven't had one in ages. We're getting up slowly as it's a bit grey.

If you fancy Chinese tonight you are very near Chinatown. Someone earlier mentioned the Yang Sing on Portland St - always has a great reputation although I havent been for a good few years."

Thanks. We had such a large afternoon tea (we couldn't manage to eat the cakes!) that we can't even think of food now. I suspect we're going to end up going to somewhere very cheap for not a lot.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

"I can't go into a bar with my friend so I am stuck with the same price as London cocktails in the hotel. I can live with that.

I'm going to find The People's History Museum tomorrow, I think.

A recommendation for somewhere for dinner tomorrow would be gratefully received.

Go to Tops international buffet on Portland Street. Its fab. Then for desert burn off your calories @ Cupids x "

It's not that sort if visit - I'm with a nun.

I have now found the Little Waitrose, although buying around there wouldn't give me the cash I'd need from the sale of my London flat to make the move worth it.

It's a lovely city and I have missed out in the past just visiting for work.

"Manchester is South, get up to the proper North lol

Anything north of what used to be Hadrian's wall is foreign lands and until I've had my shot's from the Doctor's not a chance

Well we are working on making it a foreign land but all who have seen the light are welcome, it will all be worth it to never have a Tory government again! lol"

Be very careful what you wish for.

I always am and will retain my desire for Scotland to become once again Master of it's own destiny, as it should be! Now if only it could be a Republic instead of a Monarchy then we will truly be in the 21st century!

I've just seen that the average house price in the NW is £161k compared to £240k elsewhere.

Lol, not in south Manchester it isn't! I think there's possibly a greater disparity in top and bottom end meaning the average figure is more meaningless in Manchester area. Clearly it's not London prices.

They have WAITROSE.......... in MANCHESTER.?????????????????????

That's it! I'm phoning Nick Ferrari first thing in the morning. This is disgraceful wasting such quality groceries on people 'of the North'......

I feel the need for a lie down with a cup of Darjeeling to calm my nerves.... and a copy of today's Daily Mail to soothe my fevered brow.....

They'll be allowed to have broadband next.... Sorry? They've already got what...??????

an unusually reactionary ted.

Maybe when you average out, but you'll be lucky to get a 2 bed terrace in York for less than £200k.

I'm in South Manchester in a two bed semi. Prices are around £160-£180, 000. My brother, however, paid just £95, 000 for a 3 bed in Wigan.

£240,000-£350,000 for a three bed in this particular part of south Manchester

They were probably all logged on here with their mobiles sending 'Im staying in a City Centre hotel in Manchester tonight. Fancy a fuck?' messages...

NORTHERNERS LOVE GRAVY! Right now I've got that off my chest could I ask who ever said there's a frozen yogurt place to tell me in what direction of Manchester!? Pretty please!!! I was listening to Xfm this afternoon and it actually said that apparently Manchester was the most expensive city for a night out! I think that was including a hotel! Get yourself to Blackpool!!! Me and my mates went a few months ago, it was £20 for a double room, absolutely minging but my god what a good night we had!! If you like the country side you should look into the ribble valley there's a direct train from Manchester to clitheroe, it's lovely on a nice day, there's a castle and a river it's lovely x

I couldn't find the froyo place again so didn't get to try it. I wasn't paying proper attention on the first day.

The north does seem to adore its gravy. I hate the stuff so that might be reason enough to remain in the south.

My nights out have been expensive but that's because we were in pamper mode.
