When you first set up your iPad and selected language etc it should have asked if you wanted to join a wifi network at this point you'd click yes and it would ask for the name of the network (what your wifi router is called online) and then the password. Enter it all and it should connect and then remember it so each time you log on it automatically connects.

So now go into settings, select wifi (think its the second one down in the list) turn wifi on and select a connection from the list, it will ask for the password, enter it and you should be away. Good luck!

Thank you for the feed back, but to tell the truth I have done all that and to no avail. We have Virginmedia WI FI in our place but when you try to log onto it, it has a small icon of a lock on it, does this mean its not available or has to be unlocked. I went to my local shopping centre the other day and the guy in the virgin media store logged me into the shopping malls WI FI no problem

The padlock means you need to put the pass code in

"The padlock means you need to put the pass code in"

The pass code should be 8 characters and will be on a sticker on the modem

If your still having problens...

Just to ensure your connecting to your modem... When you see it on your iPad ... Unplug the modem and the name with the padlock should disappear.

Then plug it back in and try again

The lock icon means that it needs a password. Look on the modem that Virgin Media gave you for a sticker it will be on there.
