In a place not far from Exeter

Thinking of coming to York at the end of October for a few nights. Never been before. Any suggestions for places to stay that aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg?!! x

If you're coming during half term it will probably cost you a couple of internal organs too. I'd start booking now!

Queens Hotel is nice. I've heard good things about Park Inn. If money is no object then the Cedar Court is 5*. The Dean Court Hotel is right next to the Minster so could be noisy on a Sunday morning. There are two central Premier Inns that are next to each other, just round the corner from the Station, and the Hilton is brand new.

Obviously it does depend on your budget. If you're OK with B&Bs then look at Fulford Road and Fishergate. Tons on those roads and both on the no 7 bus route which is one of the Park & Ride routes.

Thanks very much for the replies. Got to come in half-term as I work at a school and unfortunately money is tight being a single mum so need to do it on a bit of a budget. Thanks for the info about the places on the bus route; I will have a look at those. xx

Hull

There are plenty of hotels in York, but from my experience, stick to those outside the city centre.

There is a major problem with a lot of the well established hotels though in York. They all have a policy of insisting that at weekends, they don't take in 1 night bookings but concentrate on 2 nights minimum stay bookings. If individual hotels end up with spare rooms by Friday or Saturday nights, they only release them to "general sale" at 6pm. That is too darn late for people to make a choice.

So if just a Saturday night was your requirement, it would be best to stick to the major branded names as it is unlikely they will be caught up in this booking cartel!

Wetherby is a nice little place to visit, especially by the river, so relaxing and chilled out, nice views

The Town by The Cross

Pre book Travelodge if you are only wanting a bed and bath ...

I did it a few years back.

I'd paid about 20 each night for my room and people getting rooms on the spare of the moment were paying 90.....

Book now .....

Check out 'stillrabbit' accommodation. Bout a 15 min drive I think to York but these log cabins are amazing and you get your own outdoor hot tub. Stayed for a week but could have stayed forever.
