In Your Bush

I quite like books, so if I get on with an author I tend to collect them all. I now seem to have loads and loads because I don't get rid of them.

Anyway , I was just looking for a particular one when I noticed Windows 3.1 Simplified

Am I an odd bod by keeping them? Do you keep or swap/recycle?

See a few of you say you read on a tablet of some kind. I looked at it but its hardly cheaper than buying the actual book. I prefer a real one.

I have over 800 books mostly reference books. All ways looking in book shops and second book shops for new books to add to my shelves. Tried a kindle and got rid of it. was just not the same I just like the smell and the feal of a.good book.

I said I would never get a kindle, but i succumbed and never loo,ed back, you can either delete them or save, briiint for me to read in bed without my glasses cause you can change the font size, which was the main reason I bought it

Love books and keep all my reference books. But paperbacks used to annoy me because I read them so quickly but then would be loathe to throw them away/recycle etc.

The kindle has solved that problem - I use it for 'disposable' reading. The latest releases are a rip off but there's so much to read who needs to read them? Just read something else until the 'latest release premium' has come off.

It's also perfect for reading porn in public.

There are a lot of books that haven't transferred to Kindle yet so I do still buy them. However, for going away nothing beats a Kindle. I can get through 6 books in a week, and that takes up a lot of suitcase space.

I can't bear getting rid of books. The only time I have gotten rid of any was when I moved here from Australia 12 years ago - I gave all my books to a second hand bookshop and just kept a few of my faves.

I don't like the idea of a kindle as I like an actual real book with pages - I love the feel and the smell of a book. A kindle just isn't the same and if half my flat gets filled up with books then so be it.

Yep - I use an iPad and have never bought a book through the apple books thing.

I use the iPad for books with photos and kindle for paperbacks.

You can download kindle on smartphones too and it will sync any ebooks you buy via amazon across whatever devices you use meaning if you're reading on your iPad you can carry on from the same page on your phone etc.

I do still have lots of books. I have a kindle but I still prefer a book. I tend to keep them til I run out of space in my bookcase, then give them to a charity shop

Keep all books, I still have books from when I was 10 onwards, some do live in boxes now. However I love bookcases full, think it gives a good insight into a person.

I'm an avid reader, sometimes 4/5 books a week (loathe t.v, bores me to hell)

I prefer real books. I don't want to read from a screen, take great pleasure and comfort from the feel, smell and touch of paper.

Like others here, I collect my favourite authors, get very excited when a new Pratchett is due

I use free cycle and two local charity shops to move on/buy from.

Have thus far resisted the digital book, even my elderly mother has a kindle but I'm really not interested.

I love books and have hundreds as I can't bear to part with them because I know I will sometime want to read them again!! I was bought a kindle and have kindle on my ipad but its not the same so I ignore them and continued buying books to the dismay of my mum. I just can't read off a device I need the feel and the smell off a book to lose myself in the story

Oh god I have tons of books and a kindle.

I've just done a book swap box and left it outside my front door in our block of flats. Sharing and saves money.

It's generally the ones I've read once but scanned through and not really enjoyed , not fussed about getting them back.(means I have room for more books)

I have the ' moonreader ' app on my tablet , which can read kindle books which are in .mobi format , and nook books which are in .epub format ...versatile but drains The battery , ...The nook ...is my choice of e-reader , for its battery life ..sd-storage ...and you don't need to register it to use it ....all books are easily sourced ...with torrents its illegal to upload ....not download .

I'm just about to have a book cull - bit sale next weekend and I'm finally joining ebay!

But I keep any that I will read again. Got lots of complete sets by particular authors.

I also have a kindle but I prefer a real book. The kindle is great for travel though and for use in hospital - my handbag is already heavy enough!

Interesting to read this thread. Lots of people seem to have huge collections of books. What is the psychology behind this kind of hoarding? One person mentions they plan to read them all again "one day" but will that really happen? People keep DVDs probably for the same reason. Why is there comfort in being surrounded by an entertainment product you have already consumed? People actually say they can't bare the thought of parting with their stacks of books, would it be that traumatic? Just curious

The joy of my kindle us that I can try a lot of different authors .... There are lots of forums with links to free books, usually the first one or two in a series ....

Saying that, I do have my bookcase of favourites, that I do go back and re-read all the time

I think DVD's are a waste and only a matter of time before they're a redundant format.

But books will never be redundant. I hate having lots of read paperbacks cluttering up shelves hence my preference for kindle. But I love coffee table type books to browse through from time to time and I find reference books easier to flick through than ebooks.

And then kids books have a special quality too.
