"Tell person one they have a duty to be honest " I considered that. But they won't care. They just want rid of the bike. They aren't bothered by honesty tbh.

"2 people. Person one has a motorbike they are selling. I know they need the money to get a new bike because this one is total shit and breaks down allll the time! Now normally that would be where the story ends. BUT I've discovered today that person 2 has shown an interest in buying the bike which they will need to get to their job in a fairly remote location and will sell their present bike. I've known both people for a long time but feel that person 2 is getting the raw end of the deal buying a bike that they have been told is fine when I know damn well it's not! I don't want to stitch person one up but person 2 is gonna be in the shit with no way to get to work and £500 out of pocket for a shit bike!! What would you do?? " Be a good Samaritan and tell person 2, but ask them to be discrete and not mention your name.

" To me that removes the dilemma…… I’d mention in passing to person two that you have a suspicion the bike is being sold because it’s well past its serviceable best and could be unreliable without a great deal of money being spent on it to bring it up to the standard required to match their needs…

"Tell them straight it's a bucket of shit, there will always be another complete stranger to buy it" This really, if you know P2 well then tell them as their job could depend on it. If P1 moans tell them you would do the same for them if someone was going to sell them a bag of shit and you had prior knowledge of it. Unless you are very discreet someone is not going to be that happy about it, if you say nothing and get found out the other person is not going to be happy. I'm guessing if they are buying a bike for £500 they aren't going to have a lot of money to get an inspection done, or pay for repairs.

"Buying a duff motorbike isn't like buying a duff telly. If a duff telly gives up at an inappropriate moment, it's unlikely anyone will die. You can't say that about a motorbike." Excellent point....

"Ooh well I think the situation may of sorted itself. Just discovered person 2 went to see said bike about half hour ago and either they took someone along that knows about bikes or they know more than I gave them credit for as they have decided not to buy it!! Phew x "

Friend or not, family or not, I wouldn't abide letting them rip someone off. I'm no angel, but, as Jimney Cricket said "let your conscience be your guide".
