The woman in front of me at Asda just paid £8.15 for a 25g pouch of tobacco. Make no wonder some people are skint. That's 20x the price of my fave chocolate and about 600x the price of my fruit, per gram.

Apologies to anyone who thought this was a look at me thread, saved you wasting (passing?) yer time though.

But it will take her a few days to smoke it, rather than 5 minutes to eat a chocolate bar. If she was skint she could not have bought it.

I gave up smoking years ago and happened to notice the price of fags in the shops the other day!! It was the same price for ten as I remember paying for 20!!

I can remember saying when 20 fags cost a quid, I'd pack in! I did start whilst at school mind you, and our local tobacconist sold singles for 5p each and you got 2 matches with each

General foodstuffs. Small shop, ex Netto, single till except for several self service tills which i avoid.

I would add that tobacco was her only purchase.

Well as i still say i am a smoker it used to cost me around £15 a week now on e cig and now its costing me £5 every 4 weeks on e juice

So what i go into asda for fags only i get fruit at the farm shop and meat from the butchers and other things i order an online shop....just cause i buy fags only dont mean i dont have money for food

I get 10-packs of 50 gram pouches of (legal) good quality tobacco sent in the mail from Holland for £2 a pouch. I dont even sell it, lasts me months lol.

I just reread the OP. I don't think he was attacking her choice, I think he was just surprised at how expensive it is.

I said the same to a friend of mine just the other day when she was buying cigarettes. As a non-smoker I don't pay any attention to the price until I'm with a friend who is buying some then I am amazed at how the price seems to gallop up - it's not a cheap vice!

I remember it was £1.17 for ten benson, I used to get staff discount on the boat and get 200 benson for £7.50! It's way more than that for 1 pack now, not that I care I gave up years ago x
