In this day and age of equalness, I would say 50/50, but I prefer to pay.

So I think it best if the rule be, the one that initiates the date should pay.

The woman should pay. That lets the man know he's pulled her and they can then cut to the chase and head off back to her place for some serious humping.

I'd always take her for a 3 course meal, and pay for it.

After all, Fish Chips and Sauce ain't so expensive in the great scheme of things

For the first date the guy should pay. If the relationship progresses then you work it out between yourselves

This always makes me feel awkward – like to pay for myself as that way I don’t feel like I owe anyone anything.

Very good point, had not even thought to consider that dilemma

All depends! I like to pay but have been shot down in the past for insisting on doing so. I now assume i will be but i wont insult someone in doing so.

It depends.

I have set a rule that if I drive more than 30miles away from home to meet someone, then I expect the other person to buy me a pint and a pub meal.

Less than that, I go dutch with him.

Well maybe because I'm of a certain age, I'm happy to pay, and feel most comfortable with that but a certain lady is very insistent so I have to let her pay her way a lot of the time!!

I actually think its more a rarity these days if a guy pays.

And like wishful says...by contributing yourself , it gives you more say in how the evening works out.

I even pay half when or if going to chams and staying over at b and b .

Maybe im daft but i feel better doing it that way
