Taking your drink

I know there's the obvious of drinking a load and not getting into a state such as: Pace yourself, stick to he same drink, have glad in between and have water or something. Eat/drink plenty before you go out and make sure you have had a nice sleep the night before. Is there a way though to learn how to handle your drink?

I know a bloke and when we first started socialising he would get very d*unk after about 8 pints. One time he got to his 12th pint and he was vomiting everywhere, he felt dizzy and all sorts. That was a few years ago. Now he can drink that without it affecting him much. Was wondering if there's a trick to it

Yes, if you can drink twelve pints without falling over or throwing up I'm guessing the trick is to have already turned your liver to pate.

same with people who seek to be able to achieve drinking 12 pints and remaining sober.

just guessing that over the years his body has adjusted to cope with that level of alcohol abuse and has become tollerant of it.

The land of grey peas and bacon

There is no trick to it...drink affects different people in different ways....Larry might be able to drink 20 pints and still be "sober" and John might drink 20 pints and be in a coma..we all have different levels at which with absorb alcohol.. Along with the type of alcohol we drink. some can handle beers but not sprits and some can handle sprits and not beer. You may go out on an empty stomach so alcohol is absorbed quicker then maybe if you gone out on a full stomach...sometimes it's how quickly you drink and drink if you gulp it down then it really does hit you then if you was to sip in..It's also somewhat got to do with body mass etc...there are no tricks however it's about knowing when enough is enough and to avoid alcohol that you have a negative reaction on...I can't drink gin it makes me a nasty person....it also is dependant on your state of mind when you drink as to how you are going to react to certain situations

I see where you're coming from, but what would you rather. Drinking 3 pints and being d*unk or drinking 12 and being sober. I think if you're careful as in you don't do it often. Drinking 12 pints and remaining sober is your better option as you know. You can walk home and be safe whereas with lightweights they will be victims of attacks or be involved in some sort of accident.

Those who drink regularly build up a tolerance for alcohol and how much they can drink does not affect them as much as a person who drink once a month...it's like anything you give it to your body regularly it builds a tolerance to it...

How about not drinking 12 pints, regardless of your state after? Why can't things be enjoyed in moderation?

What's wrong with couple of pints or 3? You know, just as a drink. I've never seen the appeal of proving drinking prowess, at the expense of your live down the line.

Disclaimer: I don't, and have never d*unk alcohol. I can still have an opinion on the matter.

It's not a competition. Drink to the point that you're merry and having fun but stop before you turn in to a complete mess.

If this is at 3 pints then just drink slower than your mates and save lots of money

Id rather show control by knowing my own body and not getting to that state and knowing when to stop. I'm a lightweight, and to avoid getting d*unk i stop.

Watching alcohol consume and destroy my dads life i believe abuse is a suitable word to use.

Its just the mentality though. I understand knowing one's limits, but that isn't the same as pushing said limits.

To be honest, unless you have Kryptonian DNA, 12 pints should never be in the equation of anyone's thought process.

Hell, i'd consider 6 pints gross excess for most. But what do i know....

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

The more you drink, the more you CAN drink, although why anyone would want to pay for 12 pints is beyond me. And 12 pints of what? Lagers sold by pubs are not the healthiest drinks, and are full of chemicals and crap. 12 pints of real ale would be better but with both the above the guy must be on the loo most the night.

No, I leave the excessive drinking to people with larger wallets and bladders than me.

Doctors say 1.8 pints is the limit you should have. Any more is classed as heavy drinking and bad for your health. Even though 0 pints/drinks is best. That's the same for driving limits. Half is tops for me if driving.

If you can handle you drink a bit. 5 or 6 pints is perfectly fine as long as your sober and you don't do it often.

Anything more is classed as seriously going to affect your health, but once in a while isn't hurting anyone. Plus sometimes people don't realise what goes down there until the day/night is over or they are clearing up after themselves.

I used to know someone who could seriously take his drink. Used to go on 3 day benders and even then the only problem he had is every now and again his speech came out slightly slurred. When he died. They did an autopsy and all the organs. including the liver was perfect and when the doctors heard about how much he d*unk. They were shocked. I think it must be something to do with a balanced diet.

Some people have genetic quirks. For instance, my bones heal slightly quicker than average, handy when i was playing rugby.

Doesn't mean i go jumping off tall building to break my ankles just because i'm part Wolverine.

Funny, your story stated he used to get d*unk at 8 pints, vomitting at 12 pints, then his body developed a higher tolerance for alcohol and suddenly 12 pints didn't affect him much.

Now, "social drinking" is:

casual drinking in a social setting without an intent to get d*unk.

Based on the above, he had to have pushed his body passed the 8 pint barrier to get to 12. Even when he was getting d*unk at 8 pints, no one consumes that much alcohol "socially".

Pleas correct me if i'm wrong. I'm not having a go at you by the way.

12 pints of beer is not 'being sociable'. You can drink lemonade and be sociable, in fact more so as you won't be pissed.

However everyone metabolises alcohol differently so perhaps the OPs friends has changed his diet and so can soak up more than before.
