So did Lucas. At least she had the sense to stop. He's still raping Star Wars for all its worth.

people who like novels but have to tell me the film wasnt as good as the book annoy me, people who make novels out of books ive never read annoy me claiming them as masterpieces

mainly cos I dont read novels

cloud atlas looked amazing in the trailers, in the cinematic flesh it was one of the WORST films I'd ever seen, and I didnt watch it in the cinema at first. So 3moths later, it came out in the cinema, and a female friend(hot) wanted to go see it..I felt a cinema perspective, and hers, might make the film more palatable....she wanted us to leave 1hr into it, and we did.fucking pish.

IMO JK Rowling should of been done for plagiarism. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Harry Potter but certain elements are blatantly stolen from Tolkien.

You should be so clever to pen such bollocks....

I have never read the books, have never seen the films, but recognise an enormously successful author when I see one.

Aren't all fantasy/ magic novels just a variant on the same thing ?

Actually I see little similarity between JKR and Tolkien ...

I always thought that it was a rip off of The Worst Witch.

Before you wonder why I'm reading kids books, well......I was 7 & at school.

I did have a thing for Miss Hardbroom though. I think thats where my love of dominant women came.

Anyway, I digress.......Harry Potter is rubbish!

But the storylines are very different

There's always a bad guy, a quest for a hidden object,/ item of power, a mentor figure etc.

You might as well compare it to Dickens or Tom Brown's School Days

Kids n young adults much harder to write for. The tone has to be spot on, adventurous but not over complicated, etc

Having said that I feel JKR very much standing on the shoulders of giants, Tolkien, blyton, and others.

Forgot the Spiders too. Shelob = Aragog Even the most sceptical must raise an eyebrow at Worm tongue & Worm tail.

I am a massive Harry potter fan, it's amazing. To compare it to Star Wars is ridiculous, totally different films totally different times. I enjoy both for very different reasons

Haven't seen all the films and haven't read any of the books.

She did do reasonably well writing under a pseudonym recently though didn't she? Until someone revealed it was her, I think it then climbed rapidly to the top of the NY times best seller list, having previously reached no. 5 when her identity was revealed.

Were Star Wars ever books, I can't remember ever having seen a star Wars book.

The screen play for a film is rarely written by the books author so I'm not sure how much input she would have had in the films if any. He sum involvement might just have been a big fat royalty cheque.

She had rights to veto the scripts. V involved with the films. Yes her recent book under another name was about to slip into obscurity when it was revealed it was her

I think a lot of authors would be quite happy for their first book to reach no. 5 in the NY times bestseller list wouldn't they?

Although iirc it doesn't take more than a few thousand sales to get a book into bestseller lists.

Harry Potter was a perfect example of a particular marketing style. The books themselves were highly derivative, taking elements from "Lord of the Rings", "Star Wars", "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe", and many others.

However the books, films, and writing style were very weak and lacked any genuine depth. Perfectly suited for children perhaps but definitely not for adults, which shouldn't take away the obvious success of the franchise, but it's still puzzling to me why so many people were seduced by it.
