Should I be worried

Just had a email from a debt collection company saying I need to contact them to stop legal action against me. Have no idea what its about?

Why send an email? Surly something so serious they'd send a letter and they've also spelt my name wrong. They haven't said which company I owe or how much. Seem suspect to me. What do you think?

Try a google search of the sender. If you call them don't give them ANY personal info and ask them to send any further communication via the post. If they're real they will already have your address info.

Spam - I'd be very.suspicious if this sort of email - I get enough purporting to be from banks asking me to verify my account details

it's a phishing email..they just want you to answer them, so they can con you.

NO company..I repeat NO company..would contact you via email for debt recovery.

Also sign up for a FREE 30 day trial of one of the companies so you can see your credit file, any debts will be shown there, just don't forget to cancel once you've looked!

Or just bin it, they'll find you if you do actually owe the money, which I doubt very much,as the original company would have tried to contact you before paying a debt recover company to help them out

Like a bank, a debt collection agency won't send you an initial email for something that important as it stands a good chance of ending up directly in the spam box- sending an email has no legal standing, sending a letter does. Its a scam so send it where it should have ended up, in the junk!

Its likely to be a phishing email. The thing is that if you know who you owe money to and are paying them regularly, deleting it isn't an issue. You can often tell that they are not really because they go into your spam folder, the graphics are usually very poor as is the grammar and sometimes spelling. No true company would make the errors that appear on phishing emails. Transfer it to your spam folder if it didn't go in there in the first place or just delete it and don't give it another thought
