"Find out (if you haven't already) what format the interview will take.. will it be competency based or more of a chat. Who is interviewing you etc Research the company. As well as their website check if they have a company twitter / linkedin / facebook page. Depending on the industry check and online journals etc that would tell you any of the latest news from the company. Incorporate what you've found out into questions and answers at the interview. If it's to be a competency based interview think about your answers to the "tell me about a time when" type questions they will ask you. Have as many questions for them prepared as you can. If you go there with 2 or 3 you may find they're already covered before you get a chance to ask them. Tailor your answers to their questions to the job spec (as much as possible without lying)" Excellent advice this. I couldn't have put it better myself. I have interviewed LOADS of people, and the number of people who come completely unprepared is staggering.

"Good firm handshake! But don't look em in the eye too long, you know cos that's just weird. " I got told off at a selection interviewing course for staring at them. In my defence, one of them was staring at me first!

"Analyse the reasons you screwed up the last interview. These usually help in avoiding similar mistakes." Its a competence based interview and my problem is I have used all my best examples on the application so I struggle to think of new ones. The feedback on the last interview stated my examples weren't good enough. I don't want to make them up so not sure what to do.

Look at the depth of your answers on your form and go deeper with, "as you can see from my application I led on blah blah. This experience taught me blah blah and I have been able to use that since doing blah blah" but fill in the blah blahs.

"Write shit down if you need to- about the company. better to look prepared than stumble through it. Smile lots, and it might sound odd advice but when i've gone to them i've sort have not given a shit too much as then i relax more and don't look nervous- if you go in not really expecting to get it the outcome will be either less disappointing if you don't get it or a bonus if you do (trust me- theres logic in there somewhere) " I know what you mean. I think I might have tried too hard for the last job, but I am not entirely sure I want this one (the travel is going to kill my bank balance) so suspect I'll be more relaxed.

They then extended my job so took me out of the redeployment pool, but that doesn't prevent me from applying for other jobs. It just means I only get dibs on them if no-one better suited still in the pool has applied. As I am doing work above my grade without extra pay I have decided its time to move on.

Don't take a job that you don't feel is right for you, whilst you have the choice. Remember, the interview is actually a two-way process. It's as much for you to decide whether they are right for you as for them to decide whether you are right for them.

" I'll have to think about accepting it if offered as the payrise will be wiped out by the cost of travel. I have several other applications in various places though so hoping to get out of here soon.

Sounds like we have been in the same position - I was put 'at risk' of redundancy, then the bastards have found me a job! I was getting bored though, time to move on and all! So I'm gutted. I know that probably not a pc thing to say at the moment, as there are lots of people looking for work - sorry. I have applied for a couple of other jobs within the same company, and have an interview in a couple of weeks, so this thread has been brill! the only thing I can add is a bit girly! wear clothes you are comfortable and confident in x good luck x
