Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I'm currently looking for a new job and have got an interview next week (eeeeek!) I screwed the last one up so was wondering what would be your preferred way of preparing? Rescue Remedy? Reading up about the company? Or just wing it?

All tips gratefully received!

Have a few questions ready to ask about the job/company. At the end of the interview they always ask, "is there anything you'd like to ask us?"

Research the company/organisation if it's big enough to be able to so you know something about them. Good luck x

Excellent advice this. I couldn't have put it better myself. I have interviewed LOADS of people, and the number of people who come completely unprepared is staggering.

I know some of this has been said, dont rehearse you will be nervous trying to remember.. Ask about the job/company based on what they tell you about the company/position the. At the end ask them is there anything they want to ask about you/your CV in more detail. Trust me this is all thats needed.. Oh an keep eye contact throughout

my advice:

wear a low cut top..short skirt

and for the women, of course- go with confidence, do some company research but not too much..nobody wants a knowitall

Also check out the twitter and LinkedIn accounts for any senior staff and those interviewing you. It will give a bit of insight to them as people and their style of communication.

Do your prep but don't over think it - you'll just stress yourself out. If you're suitable and you get on with them you've a good chance.

If not keep looking for the right one and put this time down as a dress rehearsal.

Make sure they offer a hand shake rather than you.

Eye contact with all of the panel. Talk to all of them not just the one who asked the question.

Research the company and the role and ask questions at the end but not about salary or benefits such as holidays etc.

Analyse the reasons you screwed up the last interview.These usually help in avoiding similar mistakes.

Research loads about the company, tailor your answers to how you would fit in.

Things like the company's mission statements, their goals, all can help you position yourself as a future employee.

Arrive in time, this helps you calm down before the interview. This will boost your self confidence.

Its a competence based interview and my problem is I have used all my best examples on the application so I struggle to think of new ones. The feedback on the last interview stated my examples weren't good enough. I don't want to make them up so not sure what to do.

Look at the depth of your answers on your form and go deeper with, "as you can see from my application I led on blah blah. This experience taught me blah blah and I have been able to use that since doing blah blah" but fill in the blah blahs.

Smile lots, and it might sound odd advice but when i've gone to them i've sort have not given a shit too much as then i relax more and don't look nervous- if you go in not really expecting to get it the outcome will be either less disappointing if you don't get it or a bonus if you do (trust me- theres logic in there somewhere)

I was unlikely to get it anyway. I was put in the redeployment pool which means my job will be taken off me in a few months. They then extended my job so took me out of the redeployment pool, but that doesn't prevent me from applying for other jobs. It just means I only get dibs on them if no-one better suited still in the pool has applied. As I am doing work above my grade without extra pay I have decided its time to move on.

Don't take a job that you don't feel is right for you, whilst you have the choice. Remember, the interview is actually a two-way process. It's as much for you to decide whether they are right for you as for them to decide whether you are right for them.

Don't take a job that you don't feel is right for you, whilst you have the choice. Remember, the interview is actually a two-way process. It's as much for you to decide whether they are right for you as for them to decide whether you are right for them.

I'll have to think about accepting it if offered as the payrise will be wiped out by the cost of travel. I have several other applications in various places though so hoping to get out of here soon.

Sounds like we have been in the same position - I was put 'at risk' of redundancy, then the bastards have found me a job! I was getting bored though, time to move on and all! So I'm gutted. I know that probably not a pc thing to say at the moment, as there are lots of people looking for work - sorry.

I have applied for a couple of other jobs within the same company, and have an interview in a couple of weeks, so this thread has been brill!

I have done the same, though it was internal as we are going through the consultation period/restructure so I am in effect out of a job. Not sure about what to do for the next time; asking questions when its internal is kind of difficult and different but outside, try and find out about the company first and use that knowledge to ask questions and good luck, try not to be nervous, try and answer all the questions
