The obvious answer...

1" = 25.4mm

Therefore a 4" sausage = 101.6mm = .1016m

Since the equator is 40075km, it would take 40075000 / 0.1016 = 394438976.38 sausages.

The above measurements apply only if the distance calculated is around the equator. The Earth's average diamter is 12,750km but it bulges at the equator, giving the diameter of the Earth an extra 43km.

Length of equator:

40,075km or 24,901.5 miles which equates to 1,578,000 inches / 4 = 394,500 sausages - ish

The equator is 24,901.5 miles, there are 63, 360 inchs in a mile, there for the equator is 1577759040 inch in the equator, therefore the previous guess of 1,578,000 was 1576181040 off, So I guess I was being nice saying that it was close, lol
