Who are your favourite commentators in sport of all time ?

Mine are -

Football - Hugh Johns. Wasn't overseas football commentary much more exciting when it was a bit crackly and you knew it was long distance by the sound at World cups ?

Cricket - Richie Benaud. He would have " Australia " running through him like a stick of rock if you cut into him but a sublime neutral commentator .

Tennis - Dan Maskell " Oh I say " he proclaimed at a super shot from Borg or Evert in that most distinguished of voices.

Athletics - Ron Pickering. As if his passion for Athletics shining through wasn't enough he also presented that exciting 70's-80's kids classic challenge gameshow in the swimming pool " we are the champions ".

Golf - Peter Alliss . I find it hard to imagine golf existing without his little descriptive comments which often contain poetic merit.

The late great Sid Waddell,,,,,,, with his classic delivery of such poetic gems as

"He looks about as happy as a penguin in a microwave."

Though i must say, Blofeld went up the ranking a fair bit last week when he mentionned a blowjob whilst commentating in the first Ashes test.

The other guys around could barely speak for laughing.

Slightly off topic :

Worst commentator : The wife, any wife.

Do they really have to chatter whilst sport is on. An innate ability to do so at the most inopportune moment.

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

Ted Lowe - Snooker. Is probably best known for the famous slip-up in where he tried to tell viewers with black & white televisions about the positioning of the balls.
