I love guinea pigs, we had two and i used to love hearing them chat to one another, and when we used to open the fridge door they would squeal for England. Sadly they have both passed away now..... And yes they were my daughters and yes it was ME that looked after them...

It is always best to get two of them or 1 guinea pig and a rabbit as they do like company....Ruby

My kids used to have a rabbit and guinea pig that lived happily together. They used to snuggle up to each other all the time

Yeah I've read that. I know a lot of people that do house them together but according to the website it's not ideal coz of differing dietary requirements etc x

The advice in this heat is to put a plate or tile in the fridge and when it's cold and the day is hot to put it in the cage so that they have a cool surface.

OP, I thought you were waiting until Christmas?

I was. But I'm impatient! Haha. And the cage I wanted I've found on another site £20 cheaper with another 10% off. It might be a while till I get the actual pigs yet coz I want to check out a few breeders and not just get them from pets at home or somewhere like that.

That makes sense. I also think getting them in cooler weather means you won't inadvertently kill them on their first day with you.

They're furry so should be able to cope with a bit of cold. She didn't say they squealed when she opened the freezer.

Fortunately my living room stays fairly cool even when it's roasting outside. My rats I had years ago from a breeder were so much friendlier than the pet shop ones I got afterwards. The pet shops prob just don't have the time to handle them regularly so they aren't used to contact xc

Best to get two guinea pigs, but not a rabbit and a guinea pig. They don't make ideal room mates as the rabbit can kick the guinea pig. We used to have them together, until my daughter was doing Animal Care and then we discovered we were actually being very cruel to them both.

Hearing two piggies chatting and burring to each other is so funny. xx

I have found my piggies.

2 from a breeder I had recommended to me about 10 miles away. They aren't ready for another 3/4 weeks as they are still very tiny but they are super cute!!!

So that gives me a few weeks to get their house all set up. And for my lad to choose their names x

Lol! I like that but I don't think my lad with be able to say it. One is white with a black head and the other is mostly white but has little black flecks all over it. I thought salt and pepper as soon as I saw the photo but no doubt they'll end up being named after characters he likes! He's the boss x

Ours were called SHY because she used to hide in the pipe alot and the other was MISTY because she had a grey tinge to her coat, we also used to let them run around the house instead of putting them in a ball... Ruby

Sooty and Sweep may be good and appropriate for today. Just remember to handle them every day so they become tame and relaxed. This will make it much easier to live with later on.

I am very nervous of small furry animals. I am terrified of mice and rats and hamsters etc remind me of rats. I'm ok with animals that start from cat size, so I've never owned anything in a cage.

But I think it's ideal for little ones. Your little boy will be very excited, it will be lovely for him to learn about animals and get involved with them

Hi, after a lot of Internet searching I found a cage that was in pets at home for £65 and I managed to get it for £31.50. Also the piggies themselves are £20 each at pets at home but I got mine from a local breeder that was on preloved for £20 the pair, they've been handled daily and are very friendly. Then you just need hay and fruit and veg etc for them to eat x
