"Following in from the chafing thread. A few of you suggest talc, which I used to advocate until very recently. It seems that talc used in close proximity to your vagina can increase risk of cervical cancer by 25%. I'd never heard of that till recently. " Talc was used on babies for years without reports of incidences of cervical cancer in later life. I'd be more concerned about a willy without a condom in the vagina.

"the scare about talc came out years ago..not sure what it was all about tho Yeah, I heard about this years ago too. I thought it was well known at this stage." Nope. When I researched this it seemed fairly common knowledge. I can hear people in the thread scoffing and yeah yeah but dont shoot the messenger. I thought 25% was a high risk though. At least if you're informed you can decide what's best for you. I'm just a bit surprised that this kind of information is not given at cervical screening sessions.

"Apologies it's ovarian cancer. It googles very easily on several reputable websites NHS included. " Having worked in Pharmacy for some time before changing career I strongly suggest that you take the time to read the Cancer Research UK website, talc was removed from many chemist shelves for a few months in the late 90's but after studies it was proved to be inconclusive and low risk compared to sexual contact etc.

"Comes from an old study by an American Cancer charity, they looked for links to Ovarian cancer in women. Very little real proof came from the study, but during the three or four years it took them to compile their data the damage was done and talc sales plummeted due to the scare." There are a number of (usually smaller) charities in the cancer field which operate on the basis of fear using the 'this should scare you but if you give us lots of money, we can find a cure'.
