We've been sent a warning today about an viral email.

Apparently if you open the said email it wipes out you p.c and is impervious to p.c security.

The senders name is Simon Ashton and his addy is simon25@hotmail.co.uk If you open it the message reads "Its too late now, your life is no longer beautiful".

He calls himself Life Owner.

What gets us is,if he's got a Hotmail account, why can't he be traced.

Would love 5 mins with a baseball bat in a room with the arsehole, his lfe would no longer be beautiful!

Anyone else heard anything about it?

XXXX

Sorry but its the same story going round and around for that last few years.

The email account are a spoof or a hijacked account and the original cannot be found.

mostly just passed about by people doing as you have done here.

The best place to check these is www snopes com

Just delete and move on.

Nothing to worry about, just carry on with the normal precautions.

Checked it out on Snopes and they say the warning is a hoax.

However,strangely enough,while I was checking it I had 2 trojans quarantined.

Whats that all about??

You're visiting a website dedicated to all things nerdy & geeky when it comes to computers and are then surprised at being hacked???

Geeks do it for one simple reason: because they can.

If you could read your boss' emails/letters without ever being discovered.... would you?

In the case of Snopes I would be, it's a well respected site and is well locked down.

Nothings impossible, but definitely unlikely.

But anyway keep the AV ruining wherever you visit on the web, is the best advice I can give!

as a bill gates and microsoft hater I find linux does nearly everything Winblows does and there are very little viruses written for it. Nothing is 100% safe but I do feel safer using linux than I do windows with all its vulnerabilities

Rule of thumb - never accept any attachments from anyone you don't know (people in your contacts list, or an email you're not expecting).

Generally works for me

Could be that although the email is a hoax, there may have been trojans attached by whoever started it up again. That would be very bad luck, but has been known.

Although Panda is OK, I have always found the best free antivirus to be AVG. Has a low profile and has never let me down in 8 years.

Most buy that Norton and McAfee crap that once on your PC, is difficult to get off! Just like the bloody awful AOL. Now that should be classed as a virus!

It's probably fake. If he or she is as good as they would need to be to create such a virus they would be good enough to make sure they are not traced. They would also be sending out the e-mail from many different e-mail addresses. I am sure hotmail will have a limit on the amount of e-mails you can send per hour or per day. This will be to stop spam e-mail senders using hotmail.

The best antivirus programs is avira. No questions asked. They have a free version and a paid for version. The free version is just as good as the paid version for finding viruses.

If windows was so awful it would not be by far the most used operating system. Sure a lot of vulnerablities get exposed but that is because of the amount of people using it make it worthwhile for hackers to look for vulnerabilities or write viruses. The virus writers cannot be bothered writing viruses for Macs of linux due to the small amount of people using them OS's.
