I am trying to store our naughty pics on an external hard drive so I load them onto laptop then transfer to external hard drive and can see them there.

Then I disconnect hard drive and delete pics from laptop but when I re connect external hard drive thereaare no pics there.

Anyone know why ?

You possibly only saved a link to the pics and not the actual pics ?

What type of laptop is it? If it is windows then you will still be able to get them as they will be in the recycle bin, but I don't know what happened. If its apple then you will have made links not copies and that will be what's happened. How to get them back I don't know as I'm not familiar with apple.

Have you safely removed the hard drive and not just pulled the USB cable out?

If you dont need them on the laptop. Cut and paste them instead of copying and pasting. That will avoid all confusion then.

Ok will try that and thank you.

Does the source of the original pics make a difference. Some are downloaded from e mail and some from disc ?

As we know the pair of you extremely well, we can only assume that the type of pics you tried to save and store were even too graphic for the best type of hard drive - lol

Doesn't matter what the sources is. If your saving it from a web page then right click save as find the location you want to save it to and click save.

Having said that are you sure you saved them to the hard drive. You don't want to have saved then to your laptop somewhere obscure, then somebody stumble across them later.

You may be better with a memory card, or USB drive. You can still get thousands of pics on a 4gb card
