Protein is used to build and repair muscle.

Good protein based foods are almonds, cottage cheese, chicken and fish.

protein also takes longer to digest so you lose more weight to, keeps you fuller for longer, just not sure what foods have the most in!!

Well you've just been told some of them

Type into Google 'which foods have the most protien in' and one of the first results will give you the top 10 food groups.

depends what food intake he has cut down on, its no good if he is eating less rubbish, well its better than eating more rubbish but you know what I mean.

If he reduces the amount of calories he eats by 3-500 from what he was eating before and does the 50 minutes at the gym etc he could lose 1 -2 lb per week which is better than starving himself losing loads then putting it back on again

The yolk also has protein and vitamins in it (lots of vitamin k) but it also contains all the fat.

That's why bodybuilders want just the egg white

"So is that the best thing to watch? Calorie intake? i tend to just check sat fat!"

in very simple terms

your body uses food for energy. It stores any excess energy as fat,so if you eat more food than your body needs for daily activities you'll gain weight.

to lose weight, you need to get your body to use up the stores of fat. The simplest way to do this is to reduce the amount of calories you eat and increase your levels of activity.

some one will put it more technically for sure but that's the basis of weight loss hope it helps

High protein diets also tend to be high in fat. So, as well as the stinky breath problem, you risk cholesterol and hardening of the arteries.

When your at the gym do exercises that specifically target your abdominal muscles ie sit ups if you ask the guy at the gym he should be able to suggest that and others

High protein diets can put a strain on your kidneys.

Remember to include some low gi carbs and a range of fruit/vegetables.

Turkey is much better than chicken as there is no fat and the body burns more digesting it than you gain from it also 3 egg whites with 1 yolk for an omelette, tuna. You need to try and make smaller portions but also have something like carrot sticks or fruit in between meals to keep your body burning. Also water with fresh lemon juice in an hour before bed will keep your metabolism going longer. Hope that makes sense

DO NOT starve yourself from carbs, you need to eat asmuch carbs as protein, all protein does it repair and build muscle after you've ripped yourself to bits from the gym..

STARVING YOURSELF FROM CARBS: Puts your body into survival mode and stores fat..

eat carbs - gives you fuel to burn fat

keep up your spinning classes etc you'll get there.. you might find you eat more food losing weight

In in a high protein at the moment as I'm trying to lose fat and lower my body fat %.

Thanks for all the ideas. It's hard to meet a high protein goal through food alone. I eat a lot of chicken and egg whites, cottage cheese, Greek yoghurt beans.

Not tried incorporating more beef though.

Essex.

The Dukan diet is a high protein low fat diet.

A few years ago I did the Atkins dies and thenhad a blood test. My ccholesterol was so low it couldn't be scored. When I told them I had just come off the Atkins they redid the test as they thought I should have a really high score. Second time got the same result.

Just saying. Might not suit everyone...

Have a look on google for a guy called Joe Cook.. This man saved his own life and numerous others with a crazy diet. Based on a 30 day fruit and veg diet, juiced up. Sounds boring but it re-boots the body to get rid of the muscle memory for crap eating..

A huge Yank tried it and he lost 76 pounds in 60 days.. The videos are there to view.. The change in the yank are astonishing..

I'm going to do this for my cutting cycle in a few weeks

I look after guys with servere learning disabilites and challenging behaviour. Our eldest guy is 68, he was born normal but by the age of 2 he and his sister became brain damaged. It was to do with a faulty gene and eating to many protiens. It was the docter who developed the gufferie test who discovered the link hence the need for the test. After 66 yrs of a boring diet which had caused him bloating and stomach discomforts we have been allowed to give him a normal diet. I love it when we put a meal in front of him , he eats everything that used to be banned first . His behsviour is the best its ever been

The list is good for protein content but you also need to understand what else comes with the protein. For example nuts are high in protein but they are also quite high in fat. It is good fat though, poly-unsaturated and mono-unsaturated but you want to keep the portion size down to a handful (25g, a handful). Lean meat such as chicken breast or turkey breast wont have high fat content levels thus you can eat a lot more. Eggs used to contain quite high levels of cholesterol that was another reason for ditching the yolks as this is where it is. Over the years though I believe the levels of cholesterol in eggs has become lower so it isn't so much of an issue. Yogurt must be of the natural variety and for cheese my preference would be a low fat cottage cheese which has casein protein in it. This is a slow release protein so an ideal snack with something before you go to bed.

With regards to doing a lot of exercise and not loosing weight portion sizes must be monitored. So many people think that once they start doing a little exercise that they can eat a 'bit' more and thus get no results. Whilst some carbs are still required you have to adjust to suit the amount of activity you are doing. Personally I'd avoid bread, potatoes, pasta, couscous, if I were really on it to loose some fat. I'd prob just have a little brown / wholemeal rice if anything. That's just what works for me though. Don't eat masses of fruit as it's loaded with sugar. OK it's natural but it is still sugar! 2 pieces a day is more than enough combined with 3 veg. Root vegetables are higher in carbs than those that grow above the ground so try to avoid those too. Cut out all the pointless crap like crisps, biscuits, cakes etc etc. Full fat fizzy drinks are lethal too. Diet fizzy drinks are classed as neutral but nothing better for the system than a nice big glass of water to flush things through

One snack I'm enjoying recently is beef jerky. Loaded with protein and quite low in fat. Quite expensive is the only downside
