looking for advice from anyone who has been on holiday to any of the above this year

trying to book holiday with friends and want to work out whether all inclusive is a cheaper option than self catering

think the only problem with all inclusive is we might be tempted to stay to get our moneys worth where as we like to go out on the town.

any one know which country is likely to be the best value for meals drinks etc or are they all much of a like ?

ie how much is a dam good all English breakfast, average meal at night and a pint of beer

In my experience they're all pretty much on a par, they're all euro too and in my opinion none of them are particularly cheap x

You cant get tunisian money outside of tunisia as you have to get it there and not allowed to take it out the country, its very cheap there but like the other two countries montioned you get alot of hassle off the locals

I lived in Marmaris for a year and it's still cheap now, cater very well for the brits, good food, great restaurants/bars ect. Pretty much guaranteed sunshine too.

Might be worth adding a few details on what sort of holiday your looking for? Beach lazing, sight seeing, bars and clubs etc? I've been on a few half board holidays of varying quality but the actual locations were very different. It's tricky to give a blanket 'yes it's worth it' without an idea on gown much you intend being out and about

Hi

It wasn't so much the sort of holiday as I can pick which resort in each country to suit the type we want it was more the cost of eating out and drinking to see if all inclusive was worth it ?

Yes they are, I'm not sure how the lira is against the pound at the moment but easy to check. If you are brave enough you can get accommodation really cheap on arrival if you go looking and always barter with them. Bar street is good for bars (obviously) and there are plenty of brilliant boats trips. Again, dont book with reps ect just go look at one you like and make them an offer.

sounds like I need to get my barter head on, in your experience how much will they knock off from the starting price start at 50% and go from there ?

Come back from Turkey 2 weeks ago. Pint of Turkish beer, Efes is between 5 and 10 lira, depending where you get it, and you can get a good meal from 20 to 40 lira. Exchange rate was 2.9 lira to the pound.

We went self catering and went to different place every day.

All inclusive is ok if you have kids or if you're an alchy

If you go to Greece, don't go all inclusive. One of the best things about Greece is getting out of the hotel, and mingling with the locals.

Rhodes this year was great! 2.5 euros for a pint, 8 euros for a 3-course evening meal, breakfast varied from about 4 euros to about 7 euros, depending on how much you can eat!

Watch out for Egypt especially with the current political situation. Check Foreign Office's website is the recommendation for any up-dates but their advice is to avoid the country.

Holiday operators too are monitoring situation; some have stopped taking bookings altogether.

I was in Barcelona last year (been 3 times) Always go self catering or half board. I like to explore and experience different restaurants. Eating out where and when you want is preferable to having a dining hall full of pesky kids making your evening meal more of an endurance than a pleasure

If you are going All Inclusive the Riu group of hotels offer decent food and drink, they may be more expensive (a little) than most but worth paying the extra.
