Two postal stories this week with the Post Office (already separated from Royal Mail) and the criminalisation of sub postmasters using a faulty IT system, Horizon.

Today, the privatisation of "the Queen's Head" and share options.

Should the PO set up a compensation fund and how do you overturn criminal records for those advised to plead guilty?

Should Royal Mail be privatise and would you buy shares?

The IT system story has been in Private Eye for years now. It's dreadful as the PO says the system doesn't lie. But there are too many cases of it about to be coincidence, unless an awful lot of postmasters are lying!

And privatisation is going to happen whether we want it or not as the great capitalist gangbang continues. Next up, the complete removal of the NHS.

I know a postmaster who was convicted and fined for an alleged fraud re Horizon (I thought he did it, to be honest). If proved it was a system fault, he should get the fine back + interest + some form of compensation.

As for selling off the Royal Mail. Be very wary if you live in the Western or Northern Isles, Cornwall, Devon or West Wales etc.

The universal service provision is very expensive.

I spoke to someone who knows Horizon today and says the system is robust but the training on how to use it was bad. There may well be some corrupt postmasters but the numbers and timeline for incidences does suggest some sort of Horizon factor.

I wonder if floatation is the best option for the Royal Mail or whether a social business model would be better. How can it still be called the Royal Mail when it is privatised?

I'm not sure postal workers will refuse their free shares though, once it happens.

An estimated £2000 (average) share issue for staff with 5 years service.

Not able to liquidate those shares for a minimum of One year (estimated but could be longer), by the time that year comes round the staff member could well have lost that monetary value in wages/perks/overtime/bonuses.

Selling your seniority for a couple of thousand pounds in shares, which could well drop in value in that first year.
