I don't think he is anywhere near this yet. Yes he has had a good year, but those others you mentioned had long successful careers and achieved a lot over many years. Andy really is only just hitting his peak now.

Also good to see Cameron trying to cash in on this wave of good public mood - in my opinion, I wish all politicians are banned from commenting on soap operas, X-factor, or forced to eat pasties from Greggs.

No.

Our 3 greatest ever Olmpians, success spread over many, many years. Even Hoy anWiggins openly admit that Redgrave's achievements over so many successive games is a world away from their own achievements.

That said I'd have no issue if non of them had knighthoods.

No, but then again I didn't agree with Wiggins getting it at that point of his career either.

I'd prefer to see it awarded to him later in life, when he retires, as Wiggins should have been too in my opinion.

he has done a job that no one in 77 years, how long has Britain wanted the wimbledon trophy? it one of the things we are famous for yet we could never win the blasted thing!!

i say yes give him the knighthood. we should celebrate our greatness more and more!!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I think his response to the question was much more proportionate than Cameron's. I'm sure he will get it but he has acknowledged that there are plenty of deserving people out there.

SPOTY is a certainty.

Fabio, what have you done to me that I'm talking about bloody SPOTY now?

"massive achievements thats taken years of dedication and preperation.

How old is he?.....26?

They should wait until he reaches the end of his career before knighting him and it might mean more to him then.

26 year old Knights of the Realm?....not for me.

And to be honest, he hasn't achieved a HUGE amount in the sport just yet. He is only 26 for heaven's sake. Give him a bit of time.

He certainly deserves some recognition for his recent success but whether it is worthy of a knighthood I am not sure.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Ellen Macarthur was made a Dame at 28 so I don't think he's too young, and he's certainly done more than some people who have been awarded honours, but I struggle to see why some sportpeople get them and others don't. If he gets it, so should David Beckham.

Only in Britain can you beat the world No1 in the final in straight sets and people question your other opponents.

He may never win another he should get the recognition now.

Only a very small handful of sportspeople have Knighthoods/Damehoods.

Yes he may never win another slam. He may never get to No 1 himself which is EXACTLY why he SHOULDN'T get it now.

He's just earned himself £1.7m plus the endorsements that will follow. Not all sports are that well rewarded at the top level.

Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977 and she's British, so it's not 77 years.

Unless women don't count as people, of course.

no definately not he gets paid astronomical amounts for playing tennis so why should he be knighted .. and this view goes to all sportsmen and women why should they be knighted for getting paid handsomely to do what they enjoy doing

my issue would be this... if you are going to give him a knighthood for wimbledon, then you have to go back and do the same for virginia wade for example......

i also agree that i wouldn't have given one to wiggo at this point, but probably would have done in the future.. and i think murray situation would be the same

Is winning Wimbledon the pinnacle of a tennis players career? I Would rather have the trophy than be rated No1 who remembers that in the future.

He also won another major this year and the Olympics

He will be world No1 anyway just a matter of time.

Anthony Joshua got an MBE for winning Olympic Gold as an amateur boxer.

So I don't understand why anyone thinks Murray does not deserve it for winning Wimbledon.

No chance, so he won Wimbledon whoopdy fuckin do. Really are struggling if he gets one, The World Cup winning football/rugby squads didn't get them and in my eyes Mo Farah is far more deserving of a knighthood than Andy Murray. Bloody hell we'll be making his mum a Dame next for giving birth to him
