Merseyside

So elements of the labour party claim that the unions, specifically Unite, are trying to hijack the party and return to the days of uncontrolled union power while those on the union side say that the party is now full of oxbridge educated careerists with little experience of the real world and even less about representing those they claim too.

So who is right ?

Glasgow

Unite enrolled a number of employees (and paid their 1st years subs) at Grangemoth refinery into the local Labour constituency Labour party so they could promote their preferred candidate.

That candidate was Tom Watson's office manager and, by all accounts, a 'pal' of Len McCluskey.

Watson's had to resign. McCluskey may have to go too.

Who's right? Who knows.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

"the party is now full of oxbridge educated careerists with little experience of the real world and even less about representing those they claim too."

This. Unfortunately we are stampeding towards the US version of politics, where everyone is right of centre, but some are more 'right' than others.

Torquay

Both of the main political parties in this country have lost their identity, the other main party hasn't ever really had an identity to lose.

Both the Tories and Labour are losing party members by the tens of thousands as they have chosen to take the middle ground.

Although I didn't vote for Ed and never thought he had enough charisma for a potential future prime minister, I welcomed him as someone who might position the party slightly to the left and stop the 15 year experiment to become "nice" Tories.

I think we've been safely disabused of that notion.

Taking on the Trade Unions (most of whom are less Robespierre, more Mirabeau these days anyway) now appears to be a necessary badge of honour for Labour leaders. Ed is not only a coward, but a hypocrite. If we'd have wanted Blair mark II, we'd have voted his brother in and been far more electable.

When I was serving my apprenticeship I was introduced to a union representative associated to my trade….!.

He basically demanded I tick a box on a form allowing a political levy payment to be taken for my weekly wage..

I told him, I’d do it, if he made sure the payment went to an (Unspecified) political party of my choice..

It quickly transpired this was not something he was prepared to do !

He then insisted with threats of persecution that unless I agreed to make the payment to the labour party the rest of my apprentiship would be made very difficult and basically suggested I had no choice in the matter and said I would do exactly what he said , "or else"….!.

Needless to say his attitude met with a hearty "you go scrape your arse on a broken bottle mate"….

I then went on to explain I would not allow myself to become the victim of someone demanding money with menace and told him I was quite happy to take the matter up with any authority in the land……

He stormed off mumbling loudly that I was a F**k'in awkward Twat….!.

Well at least he got that bit right,,,,!!!!

Let's not forget that Ed only beat David because he was backed and bankrolled by the unions.

A bit hypocritical, don't you think ?

We badly need a party to get rid of the horrendously antiquated class system - but I don't see one on the horizon for millennium to come!

Labour a party run by the chattering classes who have lost touch with real life. Time for a true party of the people to come forward; Not UKIP
