A Secret Hideaway In the caravan of love

My dad is the most wonderful man I know the Kindest most caring guy ever, will do anything for anyone and is a great husband to my Mum. I've given him some hard times over the years and he's never wavered in his support,I'll never be able to thank him enough for that.

I pity the men that did not want to step up to the plate and be a father....they have missed out on so much....To those that want to be a dad but can't due to not having access...keep going and stay strong...kids grow and develop their own mind...to those that are being the best dad you can be a big up x

Spent many hours thinking about this subject,as a youngster thru to a teenager and probably til the last 5 years in my life i worshiped the ground he walked on,grew up with him and to be honest wouldnt be where i am today without him.However it wasnt til i had a lad of my own in later life that all becomes clear,that my dad wasnt reall y the guy i thought he was.

My father was a pleasant man but completely ineffectual as a father. He had constant affairs which drove my mother insane (and she unfortunately took that out on us, but that's a shared responsibility). My father eventually decided to 'disown' his children and grandchildren when he married again, although he has since been back in touch. Decent man, crap father (and grandfather!)

My dads a superstar, when I was growing up all my friends used to wish he was their dad!

He spent a great deal of time with us, taking us all over the place doing different stuff and always made sure the car was full of our friends too. I love him with all my heart.

My father was a beautiful flawed man who was critasised by most people but fundamentally misunderstood by all of them, he was a great lover of women and life and although he was not a conventional father in the sence of being there for bed time story's he had this knack of being there when you needed him the most, I only understood him when I became an adult and found that he was the way he was not because he didn't love me but because he couldn't settle down. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest I feel much better now rip to my dad x

Mine was/is a pathetic excuse but I always had my grandfather, he is the most wonderful person I have had the pleasure of having in my life. I adore him. I am blessed to have so many special memories.

My dad was great much more relaxed than my mother i could talk to him.

I could sit in the pub with him and have a catch up over a drink...i dont think i ever will with my mum.

He was always there for us even in his death we were his first thoughts he was a great guy.

Not going to go into too many details about mine. Except to say he had 6 children who went on to give him 18 grandkids who he never saw. He died 10 years ago a very lonly old man.

Now this is a difficult question for me, my dad is a cold emotionless person who has never once in my 39 years told me he loves me, he believes that men don't show there emotions, but he is a decent man really who would do anything for us really just can't verbalize it properly,

The one good thing to come out of it though is I tell my kids everyday I love them and just try to do basically the opposite of what he did when I was a kid

And when he died aged 56 suddenly it ripped my world apart

Over 500 people attended the funeral which speaks volumes about how loved he was!

My mum walked out on my Dad and 6 kids ages from 8 months to the oldest my brother 16. My dad was 44 and brought us all up on his own . There is not many dads in the world that could do that . .He died aged 75 god bless him cause looking back now he had no life at all for his self and died a single man xxx

People on here probably get bored of me talking about my family bit I really do think I. A very lucky person.

My dad is an amazing man. When we were young he worked his area off to make sure we had all-new could want for without making us spoilt. He moved him and my mum out of London so we wouldn't have to grow up facing the challenges and hardships they did. We have always lived in nice places, safe places.

He is there for us in so many different ways and tries to make sure it's all equal. His partner once accused him of favouring my sister because she had kids bit the reality is she was themost in need at the time. We all have pur special time with him,one is mainly down the pub or watching rugby lol

I think deep down he wanted at least one son but got 3 girls instead but he wouldn't change that for the world.

I love him so much. I haven't really known hardship bit I know if I did he would be there supporting me in any way I needed.

It scares me sometimes looking at him as I notice he is getting old and I don't ever want to lose him. Even writing this has made me a bit teary (sad cow ain't I lol)

I won't patronize and say how sad I feel for those who have had poor fathers in one way or another. Of course I am but knowing a few of you on here over the years I can tell the parent you had has done a bang up job and that you know how important it is to be there for your children. Hopefully in 20 years they will be able to write a similar post on here about you guys

My Dad was the best Father in the world my hero my friend...... He was always there for me no matter what and would help me .. in the good and bad times .. I miss him everyday not a day go passed I don't think of him .. lost him in oct and never have I felt nothing like this in my life .. I look at his pics in my kitchen and some how it helps me .

Physically my Dad was one of those Glasgow men they don't seem to make any more.

Not very tall. Slim, almost wiry, like a lightweight boxer. A lifelong tee-totaller. He smoked like a chimney.

He worked all his adult life in the Clyde shipyards except for a spell in Spain fighting Franco and meeting the man who would go on to be his father-in-law. His WWII work was building periscopes and rangefinders with firewatching at night.

He built model yachts as a hobby and sailed them in Glasgow parks on Sunday mornings.

The gigarettes took him at 54, the same age I was when diagnosed with the same heart problem that killed him. He survived 2 weeks after his initial diagnosis following a heart attack at work. I'm coming up for 5 years this September.

My real dad was a lousy man who would beat my mum, gamble and drink. He gambled away my home on a couple of occasions and never paid any money towards my upkeep.

My step dad is the man I call dad. He was also like my best mate when I grew up. It is because of him that I am the man I am today. Without him I'd be on the scrap heap and in trouble.

I am determined not to let that happen with me and my son, and would do everything I can to help him. Even tough decisions like allowing him to move away would be done. It might break my heart, but I will ensure I'm there for him every step of the way.

My Dad was a bully and allowed my elder brother to beat my mum regularly, I suddenly grew up after she left him taking my younger brother with her (I was away at school), when both my younger brother and I had to visit and stay with him and my eleder brother, an incident happened and my Dad chased after my younger brother to thrash him and I stepped in and stood up to him ........... to this day I dont know what possessed me cos I was terrified of him but the injustice of it all gave me the strength needed, from that moment on I saw my Dad for what he was - a bully that couldn't deal with a 13 year old girl that stood up to him

He was the only one who was still around who knew my mum. Anyway I think the moral of the story is - be true to yourself and dont leave words unsaid

My dad: He's awesome. He has gone through so much with all of us and yet remains provider, protector and role model for us all. We works his socks off to give us all we could ever want and asks for nothing in return. He took my mum and me on when we had nothing at all and I consider him to be the meat example of a dad I could have dreamed of

Decent fella, instilled a good work ethic in my brothers, my sister and me but drank a too much and eventually died of a broken heart .. or d*unk himself to death, which ever way you prefer to look at it in 2011. Think of him occasionally, think of mum almost every day and she died in 2001.

I like that some of you are pointing out that being a father is more than just having donated a bit of sperm to your mother. The sperm doesn't really mean much.

I was raised my my stepdad who I call dad and he is the only dad I have ever known. He raised me and my sister after our mum died as kids and even though he has his moments he is my dad. I know he would do anything for us girls and I love him to bits for it. He can be a massive pain in the arse though

Growing up my dad was the one to do the shouting and punishment etc.

Parents got divorced and we all stayed with my dad.

I joined the military at 20, my passing out parade he nearly burst with pride.

We sailed a lot at home and he shouted at his crew. I was with them one day and told him where to go in no uncertain way. The crew was go smacked and my dad bought the beers.

I understand my dad now, how hard it has been to bring us up. I think he has done a wonderful job of it

Same, my father was nothing but a selfish **** with pound signs for eyeballs but my Grandad (who essentially became the father figure to us) was the loveliest man in the world.

I cried more when he died than I EVER will when that "sperm doner" dies.

Mine was fantastic. Always reminding me to never look back and focus on the future. Great advocate of a work well done. Never late. The only down side is he can welcome any girl I brought home as if she was the one making them all feel special.
