My laptop is broken. I think it's the screen. But there's a pc setting on my TV so if I find the right cable and plug it in the screen will act as the monitor right??

Assuming that's right does that also mean that if I go into chat that I should be able to see the cams and will my built in cam on the laptop still work? (As long as its not as knackered as my laptop screen is?) xx

The land of grey peas and bacon

I know with my tv you need a wireless router thing or a LAN cable then it can all be connected to the Internet...

If you have Hdmi connections both ends, that will be the best quality.

You need to check what's on the laptop and what's on the tv first.

You will need a HDMI to DVI cable to get your tv to act as a monitor, you'll also need an audio cable if you want sound from the tv. Both readily available from amazon, Argos or maplins.

Um...all I can think about is that bottie!

One potential problem - you might need to change the display settings on your laptop before it will send the signal to the TV. In which case if your laptop screen doesn't work at all, you are buggered.

Has everyone shouting about HDMI and DVI forgotten that many older and cheaper laptops use a VGA output?

Suggest you check what your laptop connector is and what your tv input is if you're buying cables.

If you need to output a VGA signal to a DVI TV port, you also need to check its DVI-I compatible (it has the 4 large analogue support pins at one end)

Are you suggesting that the lady is old and cheap? Not to mention having a large analogue at one end?

which is what I said further up. It's all dependant on the available connections both on the tv and laptop. Some older tv's will only accept a VGA or RCA connection too

I was just suggesting her interface might need inspecting by an expert to check that coupling can be achieved

You can't input a pic signal to an RCA/composite input unless you use a scan converter or you have a very rare beast- a laptop with a TV out

You're right they are few and far between on the laptop side. I was just talking about the tv in that comment.

It's about as relevant as talking about the RF connector and possibly confusing.

I suggest a little digital interference applied to her analogue input

Once you have the correct cable you will more than likely have to press the button to change your display output too. This is usually the function button (says Fn on it) and a button on your keyboard with what looks like a monitor / tv screen. That is usually on one of the F keys at the top.

What laptop do you have? Also what TV do you own? we'd need specific model numbers to check which cable / adapters you'd need.
