"Not personally, but the kids I teach will be - I'll be changing my homework policy during Ramadan. I have in the past kept a few Rosa (fasts) and have to say I found them exceptionally hard. " Yeah the heat now is going to make things bit harder to with no drinking. But hey ho, only for month. I miss the gym more then anything else during fasting and hate losing too much weight. Must be really hard hard for kids at school to do it

But at least there's Eid to look forward to!

"not religious here so no " I chose to do a rosa so I could experience what the kids were going through - it wasn't for any religious reasons. I'm really glad I did, but I couldn't do 29/30 of them

"Do u not think the point of ramadan goes out the window when the sunsets? The muslims have a huge banquet, samosas biryanis curries kebabs sweets, they feast like they eat like they have never seen food before....a light meal maybe so a person feels what its like to live impoverished. plus the muslims at work act like the whole world is about to end during ramadan, oh im soo weak, oh im tired etc etc get over it, fasting is easy!" i didnt know that they eat after dark

"i didnt know that they eat after dark" I believe they're not allowed to consume either food nor water during daylight hours, but I'm not sure of the specifics, Personally I've found that whilst fasting for diet purposes can be intense and difficult, nothing shifts fat faster.

I do think about people in other countries and have experience of working with people who don't have a lot. The Rosa in Pakistan and other countries must be very challenging as must not being able to afford to have a large feast after sunset. I am not without knowledge of other countries and their difficulties.

"I am a Muslim and certainly not looking forward to fasting. It's not so much the food it's the lack of fluids. In my town, fasting starts from 01.24 to 21.44" Wow that's early - I've just asked the kids here and they're starting between 2 and 3am. Very long fasts.

I'm guessing when you have fasted in the past you have been able to drink. That would be the hardest part. Not taking any fluids on at all until after dark. Plus when ever I have fasted (remember the sponsored 24 hour fasts?) they were only for a short period. Their sleep pattern is disturbed because of the early breakfasts and late dinners so it is more intrusive than your ordinary fast to be honest. And so what if they eat well after dark? Are you jealous or something? Do you go Round getting all pussy when people have bug Christmas dinners as well, demanding that they think of the poor in other countries?

"I don't know why people can't just show a little respect for the religious convictions of others, they are not trying to convert anyone to their religion or their ways, they are just exercising their right to follow their Muslim faith. " Conviction (and incarceration) is what many of them need. While religious groups continue to use their 'faith' to justify crimes up to and including murder against those who do not share their views, there'll be no respect for them.

A religious 'group' doesn't speak for a whole religion, just about all religions have extremist factions. My own father was mortally wounded by someone who would undoubtedly have been a Muslim....should I therefore have no respect for all Muslims?

If you believe that all terrorists represent the Muslim faith then surely you must believe that the KKK represent all Christians, yes? Or the IRA represent all Catholic or protestants (would help my point by knowing what religious groups claim to be from what faith but I hope you get my drift! ) Sweeping statements about locking people up is discriminating against the large majority of good people

It's sad when some people can't respect others and have to be derogatory towards different faiths and cultures. It good learning about the different festivals that other religions celebrate.

Everyone I know that is a Muslim (and there are a fair few) think the actions of these extremists are deplorable and go against everything that their religion stands for. The terrorists etc use their apparent religion to hide behind to commit terrible crimes and bear absolutely no resemblance to the vast majority of Muslims who follow their religion in their every day lives.

"Do u not think the point of ramadan goes out the window when the sunsets? The muslims have a huge banquet, samosas biryanis curries kebabs sweets, they feast like they eat like they have never seen food before....a light meal maybe so a person feels what its like to live impoverished. plus the muslims at work act like the whole world is about to end during ramadan, oh im soo weak, oh im tired etc etc get over it, fasting is easy! i didnt know that they eat after dark Yep they eat twice a day....a meal for breakfast and one when the sun sets....easy as fuck if u ask me.....ok it may be difficult not eat during daylight hours but when the sun sets they eat and eat and eat....all food seems to be sold out most of the time during ramadan so all this no eating mullarky is bollocks I find your attitude quite harsh if I'm honest. Rosa will start at 3am and finish at 9.30 ish pm throughout Ramadan. Could you go that long without food and water? When I did one it was from 5am to 7pm and by 3pm I had a horrific headache and felt really weak. I honestly think a little respect goes a long way and remembering that people's religion is important to them. Ruby" Well said, I have a work colleague who is a Muslim and everyone is very respectful of his fast during Ramadan.
