Will you be buying the charity song that Simon Cowell has organised?

Lots of celebrities doing a cover version of REM's Everybody Hurts

Yes - i think every little helps - we're so bloody lucky - been moaning about the weather recently - how pathetic in light of what those poor people are going through - Z

"no i wont be buying it"

Neither will I. Worked for Save the Children years ago and still give to their appeals but I never buy charity records.

If Mr Cowell wants to help finance aid why does he not just give some of his vast personal fortune. I'm sure he can afford to give far more than a record by lots of failing pop stars could ever raise.

er...guess

That wouldn't generate the publicity which is the life-blood of Cowell and his ilk - even Cowell wouldn't have the poor taste to issue a press release telling people he'd given cash or, even worse, how much he'd given.

IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED THAT SIMON COWELL is generous donator to charities

The fact that it is, as you shout, WELL DOCUMENTED, illustrates my point. Giving to charity oughtn't to be about other people knowing about it. The act of giving ought to be enough. For some it clearly isn't.

Incidentally, I feel the same way about charity Christmas cards. By all means give your money to the charity you wish to support but don't send the receipt to your pals.

The carities dont care as long long as the objective is acheived

It remains to be seen that if he is seen to give, he inspires others to do the same

What have you done incidently?

ultimately he can raise far more by just being who he is and by having rich friends who will follow his example

Edinburgh

The last thing the world needs is celebrities releasing a charity record to help the victims of a disaster.

If the sanctimonious publicity hungry no-marks in the world of celeb want to make their mark they can get their hands in their pockets or do something practical and hands on to help rather than raise their own profiles by showing how much they "care" by releasing a dreadful cover version of a great R.E.M song thus spoiling it forever.

They couldnt give a toss, and anyone who believes they do needs their head examined.

Does the public get what the public wants, or does the public want what the public gets?

It makes me want to puke, it really does.

Live aid raised approx £150 million, and if you ask anyone they still remember the "cause" 25 years later, money and awareness , sounds OK to me.

Those are my sentiments but no doubt there will be people along who will tell us to the nearest penny just how much was wasted or did'nt go to the "cause"

All I see is people using their status in a way that will give help to people that need it more than we do at the moment

damned if you do damned if you dont

If you hear about a celebrity or rich person donating to charity "they can afford it so what" they are only doing it for publicity

If you dont hear about them donating cash to charity it's cos they are miserable skinflints who expect us to give as they get richer

Newcastle and Gateshead

I personally won't be buying the song...

however I am not going to get on anyone else's case if they do buy it.... as least they are getting off there backsides and wanting to do something...

in a country as impoverished as Haiti, every little is going to help.....

I think I have done my bit, I donated 50 dollars to the american red cross... if another charity really grabs me then I may donate some more.......
