No because I'm not a psychopath .

I would have to replace them with those lovely flaky sort of cheese biscuits.

A typical daily menu of a minimum 2000 calories per person per day using ingredients from the list (and no power):

• Breakfast: Sweet cold-soaked oats mixed with a handful of crushed mixed nuts, a spoonful of honey, and a splash of fruit juice.

• Lunch:Savory biscuit crunch. 1 can of chopped ham/spam sliced down and eaten on cream crackers with a dab of chutney.

• Dinner:Pub-style cold hash. 1 can of corned beef mashed together with 1 can of drained new potatoes, half a can of sweetcorn, a splash of olive oil, and black pepper. Sliced tinned pineapple for dessert.

• Snacks: 3 Granola bars and a handful of nuts.

I think during a global emergency, which is hopefully a zombie apocalypse, we can forgo a meal or 2 and still survive.

I totally agree with the poster of this thread.

We are headed for some very tough times in the next 12 months, and need to be prepared for the loss of power.

That is the thing that will bring ppl crashing down.

Sit and think about it.

Without power, how long can you last.

What we are not being told, is how many times our critical systems have be nearly compromised recently.

I for one, have already planned ahead.

I think as we see more and more extreme weather events we might need to seriously consider keeping a store similar to this and don't even mention cyber attack.

In this area it's no longer uncommon for the water supply to be cut off due to whatever reason the water company dreams up at the time. There's always a bottled water station but that is really no substitute for turning on a tap or flushing a loo.

You packed enough Spam to put me off it for life but forgot the basics. No painkillers, no Imodium, and no antibiotics? Enjoy dying of infection from a rusty can lid.

No toothpaste or soap means you'll end up loving the BO smell with bleeding gums. Let's not forget the feminine products nothing says apocalypse survival like enduring days of discomfort with just sanitizer and hope.

You have power banks, sure, but no portable gas stove or matches? So enjoy your lukewarm beans because, apparently, warmth is for people who don't want to be miserable. It's not survival it's just expensive misery though I know your only trying to help

Ditch the Spam, get some pasta, and add alcohol, board games, and a pack of cards. It’s more enjoyable than playing I Spy with my little eye, something beginning with CBT…..It's not the kink, though it may be more enjoyable than surviving on your rations. It's a corned beef tin. x

Secret hideaway in the pennines

What about a couple of camping stoves and gas cylinders, for heating all that canned stuff or brewing your drinks.

Portable gas heater if its cold

Candles or hurricane lamps when its dark to light things up.

Boxes of matches

First aid kit and meds

Flour, powdered egg (make your own pasta).

Shotgun and shells for self defence when some fucker finds out you have all that food stashed

Central

I hope it's not during winter that power dies, as my central heating broke on Christmas eve last year and it wasn't nice.

I think we should get some refillable lighters and the fuel to fill them. Or the tools. that can be used to start fires. I'd like to heat some of the food and myself.

I don't assume that my food stash would survive from marauding invaders, who are probably going to be stronger than me, unless I am very isolated

I obeyed all of the lockdown laws but am sure some didn't. If there's a national crisis, perhaps I'll be someones dinner

UK government advice is to keep supplies for an emergency lasing “a few days”.

Food that can be eaten without cooking, and reserves of bottled water.

.

The government do note that a widespread outage could potentially last several days, so extending your supplies to last at least a week is not a bad idea.

.

Beyond that however we are in to catastrophic outages, for whatever reason.

.

For example, a highly successful and deliberate cyberattack could cause widespread failure of the UK electrical grid and energy generation.

.

We’re talking an attack that would target communications, damage control systems, authentication / MFA, remote access and possibly even site-specific energy generation assets.

.

The government's emergency arrangements explicitly consider electrical shortages lasting several days to several weeks.

.

Everyone has to balance their own risk-appetite based on several factors (cost, storage space) versus their survival goals.

.

As a suggestion:

.

Gov Minimum : 3 days (Sensible for ordinary emergencies)

Reasonable Preparation : 7 days (Good for most outages)

Cyberattack scenario : 14 days

High Resilience : 21-30 days

“Prepper Territory” : 2-6 months

.

Don’t forget, electrical outages also affect water and pumping / treatment plants too. The government explicitly warn about this too. The electric will be off and it’s unlikely much will be coming through your taps as well.

.

Assume 2.5-3 litres stored water a day for 1 person. 10 litres per person/per day to account for cooking/bathing.

For those on monthly medications, consistent supply is going to be a challenge.
