It's thought the massive blaze in the west mids was caused by a Chinese lantern landing on the roof.Isn't it about time these things were banned apart from being a fire hazard there have also been reports of them landing in fields and the metal being ingested by cattle.Surely it's just irresponsible to use these things.

No they're beautiful. C02 emimisions from cows are one of the biggest threats to the environment mankind is facing, even more so than cars.

The less cows the better.

"Haha I'm a vegetarian unfortunately."

I'm sorry to hear that.

There's this thing you can take for it, it's called bacon. Cures a lot of vegetarians apparently.

One of my mates snuck bits of bacon into my salad, holy shit that pissed me off.

No idea why I'm a vegetarian was just raised that way.

Don't think they should be banned in the least. Most things in life carry some sort of risk and what a dull and boring world it would be if we were all wrapped in cotton wool "just in case"

OP - just had a look at the report on the BBC news website.

Now, correct me if I am wrong but plastics are a highly inflammable material. When you have 100,000 tonnes of plastics in one place all uncovered and susceptible to ANY source of flame, fire or direct heat from the sun, then you have a recipe for disaster just sitting there.

I also noted someone on the report from (I think) West Mids Fire Service commenting that Chinese lanterns should be banned as they are 'unregulated'. Well, the plastics recycling industry is highly regulated and licensed and yet they are still, apparently, allowed to leave the product laying around in a manner which leaves it wide open to accidental or intentional fire. Good regs those, ain't they..... Just a thought...

ted.

Haha I suppose, but I guess it doesn't feel like a good enough reason. Most people are vegetarians because they consider eating meat immoral.

Yeah you shouldn't really use Chinese lanterns in the west. They are designed to be used in the far east. In China they just float into space but in England they will float the opposite way into your house, thinking that that is the direction of the sky.
