i empathise greatly having had several bouts myself, the only thing ive found that helps is severley changing my diet, im now mostly vegan and gluten free, its not gone but is much reduced, but i think everyone is different its trial and error cutting out stuff til you find what you react to worst, good luck xxxx

Mine is triggered by stress... Rather than diet... It's a nasty thing to have, but if I have to have an issue with my body I'm happy it's this and nothing worse.

That said OP 10 years is a long time not to know the trigger, keep on at those doctors... Sometimes they need a bit of kicking.

Tried the wheat free that didn't help tried the dairy free that didn't help really am at the end of my tether now. Currently laid up in bed with pains been running to the loo for the past 4 hrs feeling totally rough now. I have to put everything on hold because of it as i can't go out because i need a toilet close by at very short notice

Have you been prescribed Omeprezole, if you have try stopping them as these were the cause of the continual toilet visits for me

Prob not the best place to suggest options. But have you considered cutting out Beetroot....

It's used as an ingredient in a lot of products you would not expect to see it in.. (Strawberry yoghurt for example)... I have seen it be a trigger in some people.

Colofac works for me, it's not a cure but it helps. I still have my bad days. I have changed my diet drastically over the last couple of years and its slowly getting better.

Typically, antispasmodics (such as Mebeverine) are prescribed for IBS as a musculotropic stops the bowel spasms which cause the pain, discomfort and the other nasty side effects.

Omeprazole is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) typically used to treat dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and gastroesophageal reflux disease amongst others.

However, as with all things, go and seek medical advice from your doctor. Whilst it may be IBS, it may be something else which is mimicking IBS symptoms - plus they will get you onto the correct medication and help to identify your triggers (which may be food related or otherwise).

IBS sucks. Its painful & debilitating.

back in the 80's and after surgery to deal with suspected appendicitis the found that was ok so did further exploratory surgery and found 18 inches of ulcerated intestine which was removed, which turned out to b crohns which has a similar diagnosis. this was then treated steroids, diet and stress control..

as far as eating it was a case of eat what you want and if you get an episode don't eat what caused it..

for me high fibre, pepper and cucumber skin were the worst, chilli's are fine...

just watch what you eat, drink plenty of water and learn to reduce stress...

Mine is stress induced too....pain is nearly as bad as child birth....stressing about meets makes me want to meet less but the less I meet the worse the nerves get and is a vicious circle.....

I (Sten) have suffered with Crohns for some 10 years but it's been bouts rather that continuous I take 12 x 250 mg tablets a day to deal with what's going on inside. I have been told though there is a new 3 monthly injection available so I will be asking about that at my annual check next week. For me stress and diet are massive factors, cheese, pasta and rice will always set me off and it's a fairly instant reaction so if I avoid them then I'm ok

Keeping a food intake diary is a good way to identify what triggers your IBS. Also, note your mood and work schedule, so that you can easily see how lifestyle factors are affecting you.

Just a suggestion Angel and you other ladies: look up "Histamine intolerance" and see if the symptom picture and description matches you. It often affects ladies over 40 who have either been on different medications or are now. DiAmine Oxidaze can be blocked by chemicals(drugs) or be in short supply due to various stomach acid-reducing agents and/or stress.

I have had gut problems, hayfever and heart palpitations for most of my life and having spent the last 5 weeks avoiding the high histamine foods, as far as possible, I have now had no hayfever, no palpitations and hardly any bloating and diarrhoea since I started cutting foods out!

I hope it might work for you also.

Jane x

I have the next stage up from IBS and suffer with colitis.

Horrible thing.

As if i dont struggle enough with dating people judge looks first, height, weight, age, distance, they get past all those things and find out bout my colitis, out the door they go.

Hate this fucking judgemental world we live in.

I was diagnosed with Chrons following my appendix being removed. Then after years of being prodded and poked they said it was just IBS.

Two things seem to sort this problem in the end after losing faith in the medical profession.

1. Aloe Vera juice which I took daily. After a fortnight I showed big improvements.

2. Pregnancy. Never suffered any prolonged or major bouts since.

Only other thing that I knew really irritated it was smoking.

Good luck not a nice condition to put up with x
