In a galaxy far far away

For those who don't know, the academic world was in uproar following the disclosure that much of the Cambridge Sociology professor's work had been plagiarised, and that large parts of his life story and achievements had been made up.

He's now been found dead this afternoon.

What a tragic story.

He was the first man to perform a wheelie on a unicycle.

Being serious how did he fool so many people about his so called achievements. Secondly how did he plagerise his work in the modern day and get away with it for so long. Throughout my college and uni we had AI plagerise software called Turnitin that flagged plagerise with high efficiency.

I don't know the answers to that unfortunately, I'm not clued up on the tech used.

It appears the pressure and spotlight was too much for him to bare.

So sad. He was the topic of discussion on the radio 2 Jeremy Vine show just a few days ago.

Very sad story all around, clearly the guy was a total fraud but the fact that he felt he had to end his life is incredibly sad.

RIP fella

This is what I wrote on my twitter…

For all you people that hounded jason arday online and made vicious comments.. I hope you take a long hard look at yourselves

Blood on your hands!

You probably won’t! You will claim it was everyone else… or you will crawl back under your rocks!

Blood on your hands! For all the sympathy I see tonight where was that last week

After what happened to Caroline flack I would have thought people would have learned a little…

Unfortunately this just shows a lot of people learned absolutely nothing!

Truly awful news. I don't know if he was guilty or not of the accusations made against him. I'm neutral in that regards.

But taking his own life is desperately sad.

Until this thread I’ve never posted on any social media about him, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, but the guy was clearly a charlatan and avoided any personal accountability while pursuing a fraudulent public and high profile career in one of the worlds top universities.

It’s absolutely right that he was called out for it, burying heads in sand and pretending nothing was amiss doesn’t change the underlying issues surrounding his case. However I do agree that some of the vitriol was excessive and some people should take a good hard look at themselves.

It is incredibly sad that he felt he had no other option or way forward from this other than to (presumably) take his own life. Such a waste at a young age.

Hopefully there will be an inquest and structural institutional reform so that a tragedy like this doesn’t happen again.

I totally agree with this. How sad someone can be made to feel like everything they achieved in life was a lie when it wasn’t even decided.

As usual… trial by media. Makes me physically sick. My thoughts are with him bless him
