Does the drought impact on your bees ?"They seem ok, but there is a dearth at the mo and the beekeeping news is all about the weather affecting them as the wildflowers have died. The eclipse affected them. They were not flying from 6.00 ish. | |||

My roses are surviving (I have some lovely flowers), and my herbs are luxuriant (except the Rosemary, for some reason). 🧛🏻♀️" My Rosemary is doing really well (only it's second year), cut the flowers off (I use them in my smoker when doing the bees - nice smell, as is fennel) and they have produced a second showing. Roses are doing well, other flowering plants tend to be withering - had to give the Rhododendron stacks of water the other day as they were wilting. | |||

"The greenhouse is impossible to keep cool so the tomatoes are splitting and almost cooking, the cucumbers aren't too bad. I never believed I'd be able to grow aubergines outdoors but here we are. The grape vine is doing ok, so are the roses but the vegetable patch is in a sorry state. The apples are dropping off the trees but the figs are doing great. We use grey water for the pots so they're doing ok but the lawns are just brown, the mower hasn't been out since June I don't know whether to change what I grow next year or hope that this year's a one off. " I have bought some green netting for shading which has really helped my tomatoes in the greenhouse. | |||

Alas, I don't think this year's a one-off. 😬" I know the temperature is steadily rising year by year but do you think constant heatwaves and drought are going to become the norm from now on? I hope not 😭 We're already considering putting most of the vegetable plot over to drought resistant plants and shrubs and just having a raised bed for vegetables that it's easy to water with watering cans | |||

I have had a good look at my borders and thought....too many plants, too much competition for water. As it looks like we are going to experience these conditions more, I am currently slaying and digging out some plants, and will put a few more back, but more drought tolerant ones. | |||

Sunflowers and cosmos are doing really well, roses aren't too bad neither are fig, buddleia, wisteria and grape vines | |||
