Jeepers - South African schools had much more draconian uniform restrictions. Docs? With a school uniform? Boots?? Platforms!?

Skande!

Girls schools had plain flat shoes, usually with a strap. Shoe colour was mandated with the uniform.

My high school specified plain brown shoes. The school administration had a fit when guys started wearing brogues.

I had a pair of plain brown docksider style shoes.

"Ox blood dr. Martens"

Was only allowed to wear them in the sixth form, but they were my go to, and the lasted for much of Uni.

My son had loads of pairs of different coloured DMs - but never went for the ox blood!

It was crazy playing football in the playground with a tennis ball and wearing pods or kickers 😂

The English should have produced a generation of technical genius’s after that training

My mother made us wear Clark's black lace ups for school 😕 But I did get a pair of red suede Kickers for my 16th birthday 😁 Google tells me that in 1987 they cost between £25 and £35. Today, an almost identical pair in suede are £120 😱 But now I've seen them again, I really want a pair 😍
