What sort of driving do you do?

If it’s mainly local go EV.

If you want the flexibility to do long trips that aren’t planned around charging points go PHEV

EV would be the most considerate to the world, its people and life on it. The hottest summer potentially on record, is being made possible by fossil fuels.

If you can plan and organise yourself and not in a mad hurry to get everywhere on very long drives, then EV is right. Cheaper per mile running costs, in all likelihood

I got an EV nearly four years ago. I'll never go back to IC or consider a hybrid.

I look at hybrids through the lens of value engineering: Increase the size of the battery and motor and you can then remove the complex transmission, engine and fuel system etc. to end up with a much simpler machine.

Oh hang on... Is this one of those rage bait threads?

Kinda a false promise that , were do we get the power from to charge then , the mining alone kind makes the " green " image false ,have you seen how much power it takes to erect just one wind turbine ? Who's life span atm is 10 yrs , there weight alone means wear and tear on the roads will increase and what happens to the dead batteries

But the thought is there 🤣 and if they ever do one that does more than 300 miles on a charge ill get one but not. Because of the environment but because it will be cheaper to run

my mates Toyota Yaris Cross self charging hybrid get between 63 and 65 mpg, motorway and local driving

Mg3 hybrid 64 old diesel clio 73.3 average I travel 22 miles each way to work

Charged at home, my electricity cost is around 1.5 to 1.9p per mile depending on driving style and temperature. With a range of around 300 miles it's rare that I need to charge on the road for day trips. Charged on the road it's around 9 to 12p per mile. So on a 300 mile day trip a coffee and toasty on the journey will cost more than the electricity.

On long journeys if I align my refreshments and rests with charging there's no time penalty.
