" I have decided not to see it. I love the story and dont think that a film will do to justice. Plus - I find Christopher Nolan films a bit meh. " I found his films interesting, he's not up there with the top directors in my opinion, but the prestige and openhiener were great , interestingly both of those have a fantastic story behind them the first one written by Christopher Priest, the second obviously a true story. And neither of those films relied on having a massive list of top actors. I've not seen it yet but the casting does concern me.

I like the actors - especially Samantha Morton. They are probably too recognisable to successfully suspend my disbelief though... and yes I imagine the acting is great too... I have heard good things about the lack of CGI especially with Circe... but ultimately its still a no for me. I have two separate versions of the poem to get through so I shall stick with those...

"I’ve seen it twice and enjoyed it Jason Bourne lost at sea while his wife, Catwoman, is being coveted by Batman. Bournes son, Spider-Man, went to look for his father with help from the Punisher " I've just seen the new Spiderman movie, where King Menelaus teams up with Telemachus. Interestingly, Telemachus had a side issue with Chani forgetting who he was... The multiverse certainly is interesting.

It's a good thing Paul Atreides wasn't around to see this, but I suppose he is rather busy with Fallout...

Have to agree, it was just a bit disappointing as I was expecting a true classic , as someone else has pointed put , game of thrones , Vikings etc seem to pull of these epic scenes very well , this just dident sem to have the woe factor for me

"Overrated? Discuss. I saw it in IMAX 70mm in Manchester and while it was an amazing spectacle I was a little underwhelmed and bored at times. What did everyone else think? " What he says I also saw the IMAX really can’t see what all the fuss is about 😩

"I think we're all spoiled having had some exceptional Game of Thomes finalies (like the blowing up of Kingslanding), which does up our expectations somewhat, so the finale of Odyssey did seem a bit "BBC darts" (oldies will get my reference there). Decent film, even if it was possibly a bit too long." It helps if you know the source material. You are never going to get blowing up of things as GOT It just doesn’t occur in Homer’s epic poem. Its worth reading the Iliad and Argonautica.

That makes no sense , great acting doesn't equal great casting. Great casting is when every actor feels completely right for the character from the poem as interpreted by the director , great acting is when you forget you're watching a film. I'll update you once I've seen it 😆

In my opinion probably a better read than The Odyssey or Iliad…. Even though it is set during the time line of The Iliad it was written at least 2 centuries later…

"I was missing the colour in the movie. Everything is just so dull and monochrome when we now know that Ancient Greece was so so colourful. " Yeah I found it grey and dull too. I don't know why movies portray Ancient Greece and Rome as some grey, monochromed place. There were some good bits in the movie but overall, wasn't the best movie I've ever seen.

"Overrated and over hyped. Also they missed out on promoting it with Spider-Man like Barbie and Oppenheimer. They could have had Brand New Odyssey or The Spiderssey as hashtags. They are both still doing good at the box office though. I watched it in a standard cinema. It seemed to drag on at times. The ensemble cast was average. I was disappointed in the acting, or should I say lack of. The witch and Penelope were the standout performances IMO. My thinking is the budget was spent on the cameras and the large battles, plus the wages for the big stars. So the costumes ended up very basic. The lack of colour/vibrancy was sad. I would have preferred a majority Greek cast, for authenticity. But this was the complete opposite. It didn't feel or sound like Greece. So many American accents (I get it, it's a Hollywood film). But no Greek accents? Not even an attempt? The dog was one of the best actors. I would have preferred to see more fight sequences. Maybe even Achilles. Or a ship battle. I wouldn't watch it again. Definitely not an epic. Troy was better. Spider-Man was better." you rate spider man? it not what i usually like but lots are saying its worth seeing, im assuming you agree

It went to a different place plot wise, but I understand what they are trying to do. Spider-Man is the long term investment for the MCU. The golden goose.

"I really enjoyed it, to me it didn't feel like it was almost 3 hours long as I felt it kept the pace and the interest going that you were fully engrossed in the film. My only gripe was they used Viking boats not Greek boats. " tbh i was thinking the boats looking more roman than greek!

They obviously wanted them to have a single accent to make it apparent they were from similar places, so American made sense. Maybe it could have been entirely in Mycenaean Greek though, thatd be something

"Zendaya still has that face like she knows you but can’t remember where from?" One of her worst performances. Not sure what she was going for. My guess is she was constipated for most of the filming. Same for a few others.

They rented Viking boats, but either way they were not ancient Greek boats.

"I enjoyed it. The witch particularly. I hadn't been to an IMAX in years. It was difficult to take it all in visually 💜" I wonder when the thread will appear asking if women prefer IMAX or IMAX 70mm. I'm looking forward to going and would love to see it in 70mm but will likely see it in Standard Imax. I did go to see Brand New Day with my daughter and it was actually a brilliantly done movie.

"Sadly Hollywood and TV in general doesn't seem to get Ancient Greece and Rome right. In fact, you can say the same for all ancient civilizations. I think the only time they got things right was when HBO did the TV show called Rome." Rome was great. But none of these things are done strictly according to source, they are done for cinematic spectacle, I'm fine with that personally. A friend of mine studied Greek literature is she is horrified by the idea of it...
