I know a lot of people on Fab are quite adventurous and travel around a bit. One place I haven’t visited is Northumberland. Thinking of doing the Northumberland 250 and would love to hear from anyone who’s done it.

What are the best places to see/visit? Ideal place to stay etc.

Be nice to hear some ideas.

Nice place and worth a visit, just be careful of the weather and go prepared for anything.

County Durham is best though but, I biased.

Holy Island is worth a visit. The risk of getting cut off from the mainland adds a touch of low level jeopardy to your visit too.

I’ve been trying to chase the Northern Lights in the UK for a while and caught some in Norfolk of all places but, I’ve heard Northumberland’s got the darkest skies so, may be a trip during the darker longer nights.

I need to get my notepad out and start jotting ideas.

Cragside is absolutely beautiful.

Holy Island, make sure you set off early. There are some really cute little stalls in gardens on the island, I've still got a couple of plants growing.

Really loved Alnwick, it's charming and the dunes are a lot of fun. Ford and Etal Estates are great for a mooch. If you follow the road up along the coastline there are beautiful places to visit - Beadnell and Bamburgh esp.

There’s meant to be a long forest road somewhere and I can’t remember the name of it. That’s supposedly a nice drive through.

Holy Island - check the tide times, loads of people need to be rescued from the causeway.

Warkworth, Bamburgh, Seahouses, and Craster are all well worth a visit. A nice walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle.

Northumberland is a lot bigger than many people imagine. You won't scratch the surface with just a couple of days.

How steep are we talking? I’ve tackled some steep ascents in the Lake District, if it’s anything similar to that?

I do like a challenging drive anyway and I’m sure my car can manage it (fingers crossed).

So, I like a round trip and this is what I’ve kind of thought of so far.

Day One:

- Kielder Forest

Day two:

- Lindisfarne

- Bamburgh Castle

- Seahouses

- Dunstanburgh Castle

Day Three:

- Amble

- Simonside Hills

Just need to find somewhere to stay. I was thinking of staying in Bamburgh or maybe somewhere in the national park itself.

Kielder has holiday lodges. Or there are plenty of Airbnbs around. Amble, Bamburgh and Seahouses would probably be good places to stay if you want somewhere with pubs and restaurants.

Anywhere up here is stunning, theres a reason why I farm the Northumberland countryside. We also have the best beaches with endless coastline, national forests and loads of unique little villages, pubs amd restaurants.

Best places to stay, get in some local B&Bs or apartments, stay clear of the mainstream hotels like Premier Inn. You'll get a friendly experience and your supporting a local business who needs it.

I absolutely love Northumberland, I often holiday around bamburgh and it has to be one of the most historically beautiful places whatever season.

The beaches are lovely, great for kids and it’s just a stunning places, great geography and landscapes. Second only to North Yorkshire.

Yeah, I’ve been looking at some AirBnbs and I love to support local business. Love the local cafes and shops. Always nice to chat to new people and help each other out.

I went with my school for 2 weeks.

We stayed in a forest and did kayaking, orienteering, horse riding, plus walks in the forest looking at wildlife.

We saw the Keilder Dam project in it's building stage, before the water went into the reservoir and walked along Hadrian's wall.

The smell of the pine forest was amazing and so fresh and clean.
