Would you be able to recognise if someone you met was wearing so-called pervert glasses, which allows them to film you? The Meta glasses are popular with some and more places are banning them.

I think they should be banned in clubs, for the same reason smartphones are, ie cameras. But you could be being filmed by a wearer and it's unknown to you

I thought this was pervert CLASSES !

It should be illegal to film anyone at anytime , anywhere ... sadly it's not.

Any form of recording equipment should be banned in clubs.

In a galaxy far far away

I saw on the news today that a lot more entertainment places are starting to ban them.

I've never been a fan of these things, far too many dodgy uses for my liking.

There's a few guys on YouTube who use the glasses and live stream them trying to chat up women, for their reactions.

Obviously without their consent.

I’ve wanted some for ages, but just because they are great for when I’m out hiking and on adventures.

I can’t, sadly, I work in a school and it wouldn’t be right.

That said, they DO light up on the left and right when you take a picture or record, and they beep.

I think anything can be a pervert THING. Mirrors? Ban them, you can look up skirts. Phones? Hell they have cameras on and and can be hidden! Sadly people will always find a way to abuse something innocent.

You can buy cameras online that are smaller than my finger nail… but if you stop trusting people and assume everything and everybody is out to get you, it gets messy.

100% should be banned in clubs mind you.

Just like a body cam , but they record straight to a device so even if you catch someone and get them off them the records are elsewhere

I wouldn't have a clue what they look like, so no... I'd be in blissful ignorance not worrying about potentially being caught on camera or video.

Like most things, consent should be gained. And no, no I wouldn't.

.

Are they not banned in clubs? Surely, clubs have a responsibility to keep up to date with tech like this and update their policies? And also educate their members on things to look out for.

But yeah, generally I think anyone recording people intentionally without their knowledge or consent is gross and it shouldn’t be allowed.

I'm no fan of them but the ease people can record without you knowing is pretty wide ranging.

I remember being at the Dr's when a patient was arguing with a receptionist, when it was over with she looked at her watch and clicked it off with a bleep.. It was obvious she'd been recording.

I read that scammers have worked out how to stop the lights showing when they are recording, and it's been shared on YouTube etc. You have to assume they are recording, when they are being worn

It's wise to get yourself familiar with them, so you can recognise them and make people take them off, when with you

There are a few phone apps that pick up the Bluetooth signals from the glasses* and will ping you a warning that someone is filming in the vicinity.

*apparently, they're different to normal, idk, it's well over my pay grade.

I would be bit pissed if they were filming me without my consent.

I'm not opposed to being filmed if I had a close friend whom I have a connection with and she enjoyed it but not by a woman who does it covertly.

Funnily enough I've just seen a TT where a blind girl uses them to effectively "see" and help them out in everyday tasks

Having worked to support the blind, I'm all in favour of anything that could help them navigate a little bit easier, in our world that barely considers their safety and needs.

But I've got a long way to go, to be able to recognise these Meta glasses and think many of us here would be well served to do the same
